Oscar de la Renta to Recieve CFDA’s Founders Award Tonight

At tonight’s CFDA Awards in New York City, Oscar de la Renta will be presented with the Founders Award by pal and frequent de la Renta dresser Hillary Clinton. This is one of the most prestigious honors in the industry, so we’re offering our early congratulations for the 80-year-old designer. The Founders Award—given in honor of Eleanor Lambert, who founded the Council of Fashion Designers of America in 1962—recognizes people who have made their mark on the fashion world. De la Renta certainly has done that throughout his 45-plus year career, both on and off the runway. In addition to his romantic and feminine designs being a red carpet staple for Hollywood heavyweights Sarah Jessica Parker and Jessica Biel, he also helps usher in a new class of Oscar Girls, like Jessica Chastain and Allison Williams. Off the carpet, de la Renta also is a devout supporter of the arts, serving on the boards of several organizations, including The Metropolitan Opera, Carnegie Hall and the nonprofit New Yorkers for Children. Chime for Change’s Concert for Women’s Empowerment Airs Tomorrow!

Jun 1, 2013 @ 4:00 pm

Beyonce and Madonna are  sounding off for a cause–and they’re bringing extra dose of girl power to boot! Tonight in London, Queen Bey, Jennifer Lopez, Rita Ora, and many more will take the stage at The Sound of Change Live, a concert held by Gucci’s Chime for Change campaign working to raise awareness for girls’ and womens’ issues. “I am really happy that so many amazing artists and presenters have come together to support Chime for Change,” Beyonce said. “Our goal is to have a great time together while we unite and strengthen the voices of girls and women around the world.” In addition to the star-studded performance lineup, Madonna is scheduled to present, along with Freida Pinto, Zoe Saldana, Jessica Chastain, and many others. Funds raised at the event will benefit non-profit organizations pursuing change, and encouraging education for women and girls around the world. “60% of the children in the world not in school are girls, and two-thirds of the world’s illiterate are women,” Madonna added. “We need to change this and we will change this!” We hear that! Tune in to NBC tomorrow night at 9 PM EST to see the full show.

The Top Two Fashion Moments at Cannes, According to Celebrity Stylist Elizabeth Stewart

May 31, 2013 @ 1:15 pm

With the hundreds of gowns that graced the Cannes Film Festival red carpet this year, which ones looked best? Who better to ask than celebrity celebrity stylist Elizabeth Stewart. “There are so many [I loved]!” she told InStyle.com at the P.S. ARTS Bag Lunch in Holmby Hills, California yesterday, an event she co-hosted to raise funds for the non-profit children’s arts education organization P.S. Arts. But when forced to narrow it down, she chose Freida Pinto’s coral Gucci gown and Jessica Chastain’s beaded violet Givenchy design. While Stewart put the stars in these two looks as their stylist, that’s not the only reason they rose to the top of her list. Here’s why:

FREIDA PINTO
“It was just so her,” Stewart explained. “This incredible bright coral with this cool belt and it was just a very Frieda moment.”

JESSICA CHASTAIN
“The purple on Jessica was just so hard to pull off and she pulled it off so beautifully and it’s just this incredible, one of a kind, custom-made dress,” said Stewart. “She just looked perfect in it.”
