Jennifer Lopez and Jason Statham Premiere Parker, Plus More Parties!

Jan 24, 2013 @ 12:24 pm

Jennifer Lopez (in Lanvin) and Jason Statham premiered their new film Parker last night in New York, where The Cinema Society, L’Oréal Paris, and Appleton Estate co-hosted a screening of the film at the Museum of Modern Art. “I always get a little fearful,” Statham told InStyle.com of what motivated him to do his own stunts in the action-packed thriller. “It gets the adrenaline going, it gets the mind focused, it gets you to concentrate on what you’re supposed to be concentrating on. If it wasn’t fearful in some way you’d be stupid, and then you’re going to get hurt.” In the movie, opening Friday, Statham plays the titular character, a thief with a somewhat off-color ethical code, who teams up with Lopez’s character, a woman who helps him in an unexpected way.

Golden Globes 2013 Hair Trend: Side-Swept Curls

Retro-inspired beauty was a popular choice at the Golden Globe Awards last night, with Heidi Klum, Jennifer LopezInStyle cover girl Jessica Alba, Megan Fox, and Rachel Weisz channeling their inner Veronica Lake with side-swept ringlets. We love how each star’s curls are defined without being stiff, not to mention the throwback moment to Old Hollywood glamour. “Megan wanted to have a moment on the red carpet, showing off a more confident, sophisticated, and softer side,” Fox’s hairstylist Renato Campora told InStyle.com. Recreate their looks at home by adding mousse to damp hair, then blow dry using a round brush until smooth. Campora used a clipless curling iron by Sultra ($130; sephora.com) to form Fox’s waves, then misted on the OSiS Strong Hold Hairspray ($19; ulta.com for locations) to lock in the shape. If you choose to comb through your style, make sure to do so with a vented hairbrush, as a paddle brush may cause your curls to fall.

Karina Smirnoff’s DWTS Costume Inspiration: Jennifer Lopez and Paula Abdul!

Oct 16, 2012 @ 4:39 pm

On last night’s episode of Dancing With the Stars, Karina Smirnoff and partner Apolo Anton Ohno performed a hip-hop routine to “Poison”—and even though Smirnoff admittedly wasn’t thrilled about choreographing this dance style, she loved designing the metallic gold hoodies and hot pants. “When I heard the song, I thought of In Living Color and the amazing Fly Girls,” Smirnoff told InStyle.com. “Two of them stood out: the incredible Jennifer Lopez and our very own Carrie Ann Inaba. Not only were they talented on the dance floor, but they always set a trend—I love the bandanas, big hoop earrings, and short-shorts with boots. It screamed, ‘We are powerful women and can dance hard!’” Smirnoff was also influenced by this week’s guest judge, Paula Abdul. “She set some great fashion trends in that era, which completely led me to [incorporate] certain designs in my costume,” the dancer told us. “It was a fun week to be creative with the outfits, and it took me back to that [time] again! So, what did you think of Karina’s ’80s style?
