An Amazing DIY Centerpiece Idea for Your Next Book Club (And It Only Takes 15 Minutes to Make!)

Apr 25, 2013 @ 8:30 am

Inspired by her upcoming book club meeting, Beauty Director & Editor of InStyle Hair and Makeover Amy Synnott-D’Annibale created a simple and unique centerpiece with Penguin Books postcards to reflect the spirit of the evening. The busy mother of two (and one puppy!) revealed her Do It Yourself project on her @AmySynnott Instagram this week. Read on for her tips on how you can recreate it, too.

AMY ON HER DIY PROJECT: “I happened to have these Penguin postcards ($20 for a set at amazon.com) laying around my office, so I went on a hunt this weekend to find glass vases that would fit them, and I found some at Home Goods ($4.99 at homegoods.com). I coated the sides of the vase with modge podge ($11 at target.com), stuck the postcards on, allowed that to dry, and then applied two more coats. When it was dry, I sprayed the whole thing with an acrylic sealant, which gave it a cool glossy finish. I then filled it with 84 tulips, which I bought for $50 at a deli. And it only took 15 minutes!”

App to Try: Nike’s PhotoiD Customizes Sneakers Based on Your Instagram Photos

Apr 23, 2013 @ 5:30 pm

Nike iD, the shoe brand’s customization arm, has introduced the ultimate in fashion-meets-technology: an app called Nike PhotoiD that designs sneakers in custom colorways inspired by the hues found in your Instagram photos. Here at InStyle.com, we couldn’t resist the opportunity to sneaker-fy some of our own shots, like this photo we snapped at the Oscars. Head over to photoid.nike.com to upload your own Instagram photo, choose a shoe (from the Air Max 1, 90, and 95), watch the color machine pick up the prominent tones in your shot, choose from four options, and if you love it enough, purchase your very own pair for $135. It’s so fun, we didn’t stop with one! Click through to see four more Nike-fied InStyle Instagram sneakers. More

#ThrowbackThursday: Drew Barrymore’s Flower Child Cover Moment in 1999

Apr 18, 2013 @ 11:25 am

With Earth Day around the corner, we’re thinking of our Flower Child cover girl Drew Barrymore‘s March 1999 issue for today’s #ThrowbackThursday on InStyle’s Instagram. The star was 24 at the time of this publication, and going through a major transition from actress to full-throttle producer. And look where it’s taken her! Fourteen years later, she’s the head of the production company Flower Films. Her personal life blossomed just as much as her career—now she’s the wife to Will Kopelman and mom to little Olive. “Life just happens in moments,” she told us back then. “I believe that.” How true it is…

#ThrowbackThursday: Annette Bening and Warren Beatty Cover InStyle…in 1995

Apr 11, 2013 @ 11:10 am

Happy #ThrowbackThursday! To celebrate our favorite hashtag of the week, we’re taking a look back at InStyle‘s May 1995 cover starring Hollywood couple Annette Bening and Warren Beatty. “My first impression was that he was smart—bright and quick and witty,” Bening told us in an issue dedicated to celebrating star couples. “It felt very right and comfortable.” And the pair are still going strong—the power of love!
