Charlize Theron is InStyle’s June cover girl! She’s a star who’s known for her challenging roles and independent choices—and we caught up to find out exactly what she thinks about being single, being a mom, and being happy. “Motherhood was something I always knew I wanted to experience,” said Theron of son Jackson (she adopted in March). “I can only hope to be 10 percent of the mom mine was to me. She encouraged me to be confident and enjoy life. That’s what I want for my son.” As for love: “I’m always open to a relationship, but I’m not putting those feelers out there now,” the 36-year-old said of being a party of one. “I’m not unhappy with it, but I’m not like, Oh, this is so much better than when I was in a relationship.” Next up, she stars as the Evil Queen in Snow White and the Huntsman, out June 1st. Emmy Rossum is the cover girl for this year’s InStyle Hair! The Shameless star turned on the glam for our annual issue, working a series of ultra-cool looks (like this braided Grecian updo) courtesy of star stylist Peter Gray. In her private life however, the 25-year-old is a do-it-yourself kind of gal—not only for beauty, but also for fashion. “I surf the Web to see the runway shows and then figure out who the fashion publicists are and e-mail them myself,” she said of styling herself—no third-party assistance required—something pretty much unheard of in Hollywood. To be safe, she takes pictures of herself to make sure she looks OK before she goes out. Though, missteps happen, like the time she studded her eyes with Swarovski crystals. “Anytime you Google ‘bad celebrity makeup,’ that comes up,” she said. “I looked as if a tranny clown pooped on my eyes! Sofia Vergara is InStyle’s April cover girl! With her killer curves and irresistible comic timing, the Modern Family star has taken the stereotype of the sultry Latin spitfire and spun it into gold, landing her at the top of Hollywood’s hot list. And that’s not something she takes lightly: “I am on these lists for ‘best ass’ or ‘most beautiful’ with women like Mila Kunis, who’s, like, 20 years old,” she said. “I have a son that age!” Though, she’s happy to be there. “Part of my career has always been because of the way I look,” she said. “I’m not ashamed. It has opened doors. But I also know that if I didn’t have something else, I’d be long gone.” What she has is the whole package, complete with crack timing, sly self-deprecation, and savvy business sense, including a spokesperson gig for Cover Girl and a line for K-Mart. “I love jewelry—rings, earrings, bracelets, necklaces, you name it,” she said.
