Smash Star Katharine McPhee Makes InStyle’s Sexy List

Katharine McPhee is such a Smash that she is one of the lucky twelve to make our “Sexy Dozen” list (which also includes Ewan McGregor) for InStyle‘s new June issue. And we’ve just released footage of the steamy shoot! Go behind-the-scenes of the Smash star’s boxing ring-side photos, and see the actress knock out some seriously sultry poses (Marilyn would be proud). “To me, Marilyn Monroe was sexiest when she wasn’t aware of it—it just came from within,” said McPhee, who portrays the blonde bombshell on the NBC hit show. Charlize Theron is InStyle’s June cover girl! She’s a star who’s known for her challenging roles and independent choices—and we caught up to find out exactly what she thinks about being single, being a mom, and being happy. “Motherhood was something I always knew I wanted to experience,” said Theron of son Jackson (she adopted in March). “I can only hope to be 10 percent of the mom mine was to me. She encouraged me to be confident and enjoy life. That’s what I want for my son.” As for love: “I’m always open to a relationship, but I’m not putting those feelers out there now,” the 36-year-old said of being a party of one. “I’m not unhappy with it, but I’m not like, Oh, this is so much better than when I was in a relationship.” Next up, she stars as the Evil Queen in Snow White and the Huntsman, out June 1st. With the fairytale in mind—though the action movie is anything but—we wondered, what’s her happily ever after? “Getting to do exactly what I want to do and not having to explain it to anyone.” Sounds delightful! Watch Now: InStyle’s New YouTube Shows on TheStylish

YouTube is getting a dose chic today with the launch of TheStylish, a new channel of original fashion and beauty Web programs, all from Magical Elves, the creators of Project Runway. InStyle has teamed up on two: Makeover Wars, which features women coached by style gurus who are their boyfriends and moms (gulp!), and 10 Ways to do everything better. “We’re bringing the voice of the magazine to life,” said David Kleiler, head of TheStylish programming. The first 10 Ways show—watch it above—offers tips and tricks for getting ready for summer, complete hula hoops, DIY scrubs, and double-duty swimsuits. Other shows include In Stitches, which takes a lighthearted look at the hottest trends, while Dirty Little Beauty Secrets reveals all—and then some (leech therapy?!). Cameron Diaz is InStyle’s May cover girl! For her third time gracing our cover, we brought the one-of-a-kind star with us to Paris for Haute Couture Fashion Week—“couture really is an art form,” she says—where we learned her take on fashion, plus her fresh thinking on friendship, love, having kids, and turning 40. “I’m not trying to fit into anyone’s box about how I should be,” says the star. “I just fit in my own box.” Her new movie, What to Expect When You’re Expecting (out May 18th), explores a theme near and dear to Diaz: accepting the unexpected in life. “I would never have guessed that I would end up dating any of the guys I’ve dated—never!” she says of her past boyfriends, a list that includes Matt Dillon, Jared Leto, Alex Rodriguez, and Justin Timberlake. “I would rather have my heart broken a thousand times than never to love at all. I have so much love to give—I’m not empty of love, I’m full of love.” She’s also not setting any expectation as to whether she’ll ever have children. “Society definitely puts pressure on women to make them think their lives should go a certain way,” says Diaz. “I’ve never said I don’t want children—I just haven’t had children yet.
