Holiday Shopping: Community Collection, a Site That Gives Back!

Dec 7, 2011 @ 12:56 pm

Wouldn’t it feel great to pick up a pair of festive, art deco Lulu Frost earrings and donate to charity at the same time?  CommunityCollection.com lets you do just that—20% of all purchases off the new site go to great causes.  Founder Brooks Cook’s innovative e-commerce platform helps designers get into philanthropy, allowing them to team up with a carefully vetted non-profit (of their choosing).

And if the charitable angle isn’t enough to tempt you, the site has great designers on board! Diane von Furstenberg  partnered with Girls Inc.—and Helmut Lang teamed up with Flying Kites Global.  Since all the funds raised are carefully, publicly tallied, these are some designer duds you can definitely feel good about.

Stylist Anna Bingemann’s FW Favorites: Helmut Lang’s Chic Jackets

Feb 18, 2011 @ 2:39 pm

Stylist Anna Bingemann (inset) often dresses Gwyneth Paltrow, Naomi Watts, Tina Fey and Claire Danes for red carpet events. This week, she’s contributing to InStyle.com, picking out her favorite looks from New York Fashion Week. Check out her latest pick below!

“Helmut Lang concentrated on outerwear with this season and created its most chic jacket yet, a reversible fur-and-leather jacket, perfect for all moods. But it was the long sleek black shearling coat worn with a very fine long cashmere tank dress that was my favorite.”

12 Designers To Watch: InStyle Visits The CFDA Incubator

Aug 10, 2010 @ 10:00 am

This spring, the Council of Fashion Designers of America partnered with NYCEDC and Newmark Knight Frank to welcome a dozen up-and-coming designers to their new Fashion Incubator—a 10,000 square foot N.Y.C. Garment District loft that leases studio space to select tenants at below-market rents. The hand-picked group includes Prabal Gurung, Subversive Jewelry designer Justin Giunta, and Alice Ritter, who told InStyle after a recent visit, “I feel like Jaime Sommers, the Bionic Woman, in the incubator! The CFDA is making us smarter, stronger, better designers and entrepreneurs.” Click through our gallery to find out more about these 12 designers to watch.
