Gabby Douglas’s Awards Show Style: Inspired By Her Leotards

Olympic gold medal-winning gymnast Gabby Douglas is making the most of her moment in the spotlight, attending both the Golden Globes (in lime green Pamella Roland) and the SAG Awards (in purple David Meister Signature). For both occasions, she chose looks that were inspired by the glitzy and glamorous fashion choices she makes on the floor, beam, and (her specialty), the bars. “I was looking back at my gymnastics career, and I’m like, ‘Wow, I did lime green in my leotard, so why not bring it to the red carpet?‘” Douglas told InStyle.com at the InStyle/WB Golden Globes after-party. “I love this dress because it stands out.” However, getting ready for a red carpet event is a new experience all together. “It’s so different because at the Olympics I took 20 minutes to get ready, I just put on a leo,” she said. “I listen to music and put on makeup. And for the Golden Globes, it’s two hours prior to the event!” We’re loving her gymnastics-meets-Hollywood style! What do you think?

Michelle Dockery’s Stylist Wants to Keep Changing Her Look: Which Style Do You Prefer?

Jan 30, 2013 @ 8:30 am

After working with Downton Abbey beauty Michelle Dockery to achieve her un-Downton like Golden Globes red carpet Alexandre Vauthier look, stylist Micaela Erlanger told InStyle.com that she wanted to go for something different at Sunday night’s SAG Awards, where the star wore a black vintage Chado Ralph Rucci gown with sheer cutouts. “[SAG] will be equally as amazing as the Globes, but it will be different,” Erlanger told InStyle.com prior to the big day. “Whatever it is, it will be glamorous, but it will be different from what we just did.” And Michelle was enamored with the look as well: “I loved that it was vintage and I loved the shape of it,” she told InStyle.com on the SAG red carpet, just before she and the rest of the cast took home the SAG Award for best performance by an ensemble in a drama series. ”I just loved it!” So, which of the star’s two looks do you like better: Old Hollywood glamour, or daring black vintage? Vote below!

Michelle Dockery’s Golden Globes Stylist on Her Dress: “We Didn’t Want It To Be Too Downton

Jan 16, 2013 @ 4:40 pm

Downton Abbey fans are undoubtedly used to seeing Michelle Dockery in lots of lace, frills, and extravagant hats as Lady Mary Crawley on the hit PBS show, but she made a conscious departure from her ladylike character for Sunday’s Golden Globe Awards in a modern gold-and-white Alexandre Vauthier dress. “We didn’t want it to be too Downton,” Dockery’s stylist for the Globes, Micaela Erlanger, told InStyle.com. “We wanted it to be classic, but we didn’t want it to be the same shapes and silhouettes that her character wears. Sure, there’s lace, but there’s also those incredible shoulder pads. Even though it had classic elements, it was modern and glamorous.” And is this indicative of what we’ll seeing Dockery wear to more big events in the future? “She knows and loves fashion, so at the end of the day, she will take the risks she wants to,” Erlanger told InStyle.com. “She’s trying different things and that’s what fashion is all about: having fun and creating a look. I think she can carry pretty much anything, she’s so exquisite!” And InStyle agrees—flip to page 204 to see Dockery model spring’s big red trend! On the go? Download the issue on your iPad, Nook, or Droid tablet.

Golden Globes 2013 Video: Celebrities Show Off Their Shoes!

Jan 15, 2013 @ 3:02 am

What’s underneath a great Golden Globes gown? Fabulous shoes! We asked the stars attending the InStyle and Warner Bros. After-Party to reveal their designer footwear for the evening, and captured all the high heel action on video. ”I have never worn a higher heel in my whole entire life!” Michelle Monaghan said of her Casadei pair. “God bless the platform! I hope to God it never goes out of style.” Homeland‘s Morena Baccarin echoed the praise of great height, explaining that her Roger Vivier’s kept her “comfortable, elevated, happy,” while Rachel Zoe kept her toes happy by giving her Brian Atwood’s a test run before the big night. “I wore them on New Year’s Eve, and I danced all night,” she said of her pal’s designs. “I love wearing his shoes!” See the shoes of Sofia Vergara, Nikki Reed, Megan Hilty, and more in the video above!

In addition to the couture gowns gracing the red carpet at last night’s Golden Globe Awards, celebrities also got creative with their nails! Jessica Alba offset her otherwise peach-inspired look with a pastel pink manicure, Zooey Deschanel followed up last year’s tuxedo nail art with a movie reel pattern, and Adele went for a full-on metallic effect. Her manicurist Kimmie Kyees, who is also responsible for Katy Perry’s many fun nail designs, layered Sally Hansen’s Complete Salon Manicure in Copper Penny over a base coat of So Much Fawn ($8 each; target.com). Take a closer look at their nails, and see even more Globes manicures in our gallery!
