The Secret to Allison Williams’ Glowing Skin

Feb 18, 2013 @ 1:00 pm

Allison Williams‘s air time isn’t limited to her hilarious scenes on Girls, anymore! Lately, the actress has been showing off her lit-from-within complexion as the face of Simple Skincare, and her healthy glow can be chalked up to her long-time devotion to the British brand. “I was first introduced to Simple Skincare by a friend in the UK,” Williams told InStyle.com exclusively. “I loved their skin-sensitive products and their holistic approach to beauty, so when it launched in the States and they approached me to be their brand ambassador, it was a dream come true!” Check out the star and her radiant skin in the video above.

Girls Season 2, Episode 5 Fashion: Why Hannah Wore Shorteralls, Again

Feb 12, 2013 @ 11:24 am

A lot happened on Girls this week! Hannah (Lena Dunham) quit her job at Grumpy’s and tried her hand at a big-girl relationship with a doctor named Joshua (guest star Patrick Wilson). And, in the fashion department, she wore her second pair of “shorteralls” this season, this time a Topshop romper with parrot print. “Hannah sort of ends up in an unexpected spot, but she starts at work, so we wanted it to be something that could travel,” explained costume designer Jenn Rogien (inset), who is nominated for a Costume Designers Guild Award for Girls. “It continues the ‘shorteralls’ theme that Hannah’s been on, so it made sense that she would wear something like that to work—and that she would think that that particular piece was fun.” And that’s not all! Click through the gallery to get more inside scoop from Rogien about Girls fashion.

The girls of Girls were at the Grammys tonight! At the same time a new episode hit the airwaves on HBO, TV’s hippest BFFs graced the red carpet as plus-ones for the evening. Katy Perry (in skin-baring Gucci) brought pal Allison Williams (in Kaufmanfranco), while Fun. guitarist Jack Antonoff had girlfriend Lena Dunham at his side. He also thanked Dunham when Fun. accepted the Grammy for Song of the Year for their party smash hit “We Are Young.” How cute!

Girls Star Christopher Abbott (a.k.a. “Charlie”) Works It for Free People

Feb 5, 2013 @ 4:26 pm

Poor Charlie! The Girls character, sweetly played by Christopher Abbott, has been pretty unlucky in love so far, with Allison Williams’s Marnie showing no love for the sensitive guy. Thankfully, boho fashion brand Free People gave him a gig where he can show off his game! The actor is the star of the brand’s new fashion web series, where he gets to romance model Sheila Marquez with flowers and “roshambo” (or rock-paper-scissors) while she wears cozy jackets and tees from the brand’s spring 2013 collection. Watch the video above to see this season’s billowy blouses and lacy lingerie for the ladies, and shop it all in stores and on freepeople.com.

Girls Season 2, Episode 4: What They Wore (and Why!)

Feb 4, 2013 @ 3:06 pm

For those Girls fans who were tuned into Beyonce Bowl last night, fret not! HBO already posted the fourth episode, “It’s a Shame About Ray,” online (watch it here) so you don’t have to wait to see your favorite Brooklyn-based ladies doing their worst. This week, there was a lot of relationship drama for Allison Williams’ Marnie and Jemima Kirke’s Jessa, and we spoke to costume designer Jenn Rogien to learn all about what they were wearing when it went down. “We didn’t want the wardrobe to be the focus this week, we just wanted to underscore what was happening,” Rogien explained. “There was a lot happening emotionally and story-wise, so we wanted to take a step back and support that.” Indeed! Click through the gallery to see our favorite looks from this week. And check back after next week’s episode for more from Jenn!

The Directors Guild Awards were held on Saturday in Los Angeles, and it was another big night for Ben Affleck! The actor/director was awarded the evening’s top prize, Outstanding Directorial Achievement, for his film, Argo, and he thanked his wife, Jennifer Garner (in Antonio Berardi), and their children in his loving acceptance speech. “I have to just thank my wife for being the best person in the world. I love you,” Affleck said. “I don’t need to look at the teleprompter to know why I want to thank you. I want to thank you because I love you.“ And he wasn’t the only winner: Lena Dunham (in Thakoon) went home with a DGA for the pilot of Girlswhile the Les Miserables cast showed up, too, with director Tom Hooper staying close to stars Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway (in Valentino) throughout the night. Congrats, everyone—on to the Oscars!

Speaking of which, see everyone who’s nominated for an Academy Award this season!

Girls just keeps getting better! Finally back for season two, it had been a while since we left Hannah (Lena Dunham) contemplating life on the shores of Coney Island, and we’ve missed her every day since—not to mention our weekly dose of city-girl style, courtesy of the Girls quartet. That’s why we caught up with costume designer Jenn Rogien, the stylish brain behind each girl’s signature look, for the inside scoop on season 2′s best and most adventurous ensembles so far, including Marnie’s (Allison Williams) shorts-and-suspenders hostess getup. “We wanted the look to be a challenge for Marnie, to push her boundaries so she could be a little more provocative,” Rogien revealed to InStyle.com. Huge change from her Ann Taylor suits! Click through to get the inside scoop on the most memorable looks from season 2—so far.
