Celebrity Nail Polish Trend to Try: Pretty Pastels

May 2, 2012 @ 1:00 pm
Pastel Nail Polish - Jessica AlbaGetty images (3)

One easy way to wear spring’s big pastel trend is on your nails. This week, Jessica Alba dressed up her look with a lilac mani, Michelle Trachtenberg wore a seafoam lacquer, and Ginnifer Goodwin added a pop of color to her LBD with a robin’s egg blue. “I just loved that it was a blue that doesn’t make my hands look dead,” the actress told InStyle.com of why she picked the hue. We love how the shades are soft and feminine without being fussy. Plus, they flatter every skin tone and pack a lot of punch when worn with contrasting hues. When opting for this lighter look, remember to keep your finishes in mind—ultra-glossy top coats create a high-fashion feel, while a jeweled glitter swipe adds a touch of sparkle. Just be sure to steer clear of matte polishes—the lack of shine makes the colors chalky with a Wite-Out-esque appearance. For more celebrity manicure ideas, click through the gallery now.

Ginnifer Goodwin Went to the White House in H&M

Apr 30, 2012 @ 10:55 am

Hollywood descended upon Washington, D.C. this weekend to attend the 98th annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner. And while many of the big names chose designer looks—Michelle Obama wore Naeem Khan, for example—Ginnifer Goodwin strolled in wearing a look from fast-fashion retailer H&M. The Once Upon a Time star’s white gown, made with organic cotton, is part of H&M’s new red carpet collection, which has also been spotted on Michelle Williams and Amanda Seyfried. Goodwin’s piece is in stores now for $299. Only 1,000 of these were made, and each is individually numbered.

InStyle Honors Jason Wu: Inside the Party!

Apr 20, 2012 @ 11:30 am

Some of Jason Wus faithful celebrity fans—including Ginnifer Goodwin, Gabrielle Union, and Krysten Ritter—were happy to catch some face time with the New York designer during his visit to the City of Angels at a dinner hosted by InStyle last night. “I’m not in Los Angeles all the time,” Wu said at the soiree, which was held in the penthouse of the Soho House in West Hollywood, where Wu-designed candles flickered around the room. “When I’m here, I enjoy meeting the actors and actresses who do such a different form of art than what I do. To be able to work with them now is really special.” See more stars in the gallery.

Ginnifer Goodwin’s Trick for Growing Hair Out Gracefully

Jan 18, 2012 @ 2:10 pm

Ginnifer Goodwin is a poster girl for short hair—but not for long. The actress, who famously has wig clauses in her contracts so she can cut her hair freely, is growing it out. “I’m at a very awkward in-between stage,” she told us at the People’s Choice Awards. “It’s a glorious thing to have professionals who can help me through that process.” So, what look is she going for? “I’m thinking about a little ‘20s bob. I want to change it up. I’ve had short hair for so long.” And she does have one trick: “I wear a lot of hats in between,” she said. “It’s all about hats!” Tell us: Have you ever grown out your hair?

Plus, see our tips for growing your hair out gracefully in the gallery!
