Runway Looks We Love: Chanel

Oct 5, 2011 @ 4:15 pm

Chanel went under the sea for spring 2012! Creative director Karl Lagerfeld transformed the runway into an underwater wonderland, as he showed off Chanel suits and dresses done in every shade of the ocean, from white to aqua to pearl. The oyster gem also appeared on buttons, belts, and trim, and interpreted for swimwear as sexy white looks topped with plastic cover-ups. Even the accessories had a marine feel, with coral-covered bags and bracelets, iridescent sparkling clutches, and effortlessly chic flat sandals. Florence Welch closed the show with a theme-appropriate performance—she emerged from a clam on the catwalk. See our favorite looks in the gallery!

Florence Welch to Star in Gucci’s New Campaign!

Jun 7, 2011 @ 11:45 am

British singer Florence Welch is the new face of Gucci! The label’s creative director, Frida Giannini, even went so far to say that the Florence + the Machine frontwoman inspired her fall 2011 offering. “As I was imagining this collection I was thinking of a strong and somewhat mysterious muse,” Giannini told Dazed Digital. “Florence is that kind of woman. She has a powerful personality and an entrancing quality to her performances. She also has that confident and self assured look that goes hand in hand with the Gucci woman.” Look for the “Dog Days Are Over” singer in the label’s upcoming campaign, and click through the gallery to see the fall Gucci collection she inspired!

The performances for the Best Original Song category at the 83rd Annual Academy Awards were just as stylish as the red carpet arrivals! Gwyneth Paltrow performed “Coming Home” from her film Country Strong wearing a Michael Kors one-shoulder jersey gown with crystal embroidery; Mandy Moore, who wore Monique Lhuillier on the red carpet, also wore the designer during her performance of “I See the Light” from Tangled with co-star Zachary Levi; and Florence Welch of Florence + the Machine wore a Roksanda Ilincic persimmon gown for her performance of “If I Rise” with A.R. Rahman, a part that was originally sung by Dido for the film 127 Hours. The category’s fourth and final nominee—Randy Newman (not shown) for “We Belong Together” from Toy Story 3—took home the Oscar.

Red-Carpet Trend: Swans!

It’s been quite a year for our feathered friend—the swan. Not since Björk wore her infamous swan dress to the Academy Awards in 2001 have swans gotten this much attention on the red carpet. “I thought that swan dress that Björk wore was beautiful and wonderful,” Florence + the Machine singer Florence Welch told us at a pre-Grammy party this weekend, “I would wear that.” And she did—sort of. Welch wore a different swan interpretation to the Grammy Awards last night, walking the red carpet in a Givenchy Couture dress with swans on it. She joins fellow swan fans Natalie Portman, whose portrayal of the aquatic bird in Black Swan earned her an Oscar nomination, and True Grit star Hailee Steinfeld, who walked the Berlin International Film Festival’s red carpet in a Miu Miu pleated silk dress with a youthful swan print. Tell us: Would you wear swans on your clothes?

Grammys Beauty: Bang It Out!

Feb 14, 2011 @ 11:20 am

Jennifer Hudson walked the Grammys red carpet with sleek, glossy strands, only to go on stage an hour later with a pair of faux bangs snapped in place. And Hudson wasn’t the only one having a bangs moment—the look was one of the most popular beauty trends of the evening. Lady Antebellum’s Hillary Scott‘s blunt bangs dusted her eyes, a pregnant Selma Blair had a wispier look, Faith Evans‘s thick bangs were razor sharp, and Florence + the Machine’s Florence Welch maintained her signature ginger style—wavy with a touch of fringe.

Grammys Watch: Florence Welch’s High-Fashion Clothes

Jan 25, 2011 @ 12:58 pm

One of the most fashionable people in Park City, Utah this week for the Sundance Film Festival isn’t an actress, but singer Florence Welch of Florence + the Machine. The 24-year-old Brit, whose group is nominated for Best New Artist at the Grammy Awards next month, is often spotted in couture clothes by Chanel and Givenchy as well as luxury labels like Yves Saint Laurent, Christian Dior and Zuhair Murad. Over at Sundance, she performed at the Official Bing Bar after-party wearing Elie Saab (shown). Looks like we can count on Welch to inject the oft-crazy Grammys red carpet with some high fashion at the awards ceremony February 13th. Click through the gallery to see more of Florence Welch’s high fashion clothes.
