This is what we call a warm InStyle welcome! Last night, InStyle Editor Ariel Foxman brought together his designer pals and industry veterans to celebrate InStyle‘s newest team member, Style Director Melissa Rubini. “I love being able to see the InStyle team,” designer Zac Posen told us before taking his seat for the intimate dinner at Lafayette, the new cozy French bistro in downtown Manhattan. “They’ve always been a very ingratiating family, which is very rare and very special in fashion. There’s actually a family mentality and a community.” Indeed it felt like a family at the event, where guests including Girls star Zosia Mamet, actress Yaya DaCosta, designer Rachel Roy, and more dined family-style on ravioli, wood-grilled tuna, and braised short rib entrees before digging into milk chocolate mousse and chocolate-almond tortes for dessert. And you, our InStyle.com readers, are a part of our family, too! Click to get your inside look at the dinner.
The Tribeca Film Festival kicked off this week in New York City! The festival, which was founded by Jane Rosenthal, Robert De Niro and Craig Hatkoff in 2002, celebrates the vibrant filmmaking world in New York City, which is why stars are gravitating to southern Manhattan to enjoy the 11 days worth of festivities. Film festival judge Eva Longoria and Mr. Mayhem Dean Winters lunched at the Tribeca Grill Loft for the Juror Welcome event, Zac Posen celebrated the 24-karat gold couture gown he made for Magnum Ice Cream’s short film As Good as Gold with Andrea Riseborough, and Olivia Wilde (in A.L.C.) and Karolina Kurkova (in Blumarine) attended the For the Love of Cinema Filmmaker’s dinner hosted by Swiss watch company IWC Schaffhausen at Donna Karan’s Urban Zen store. A dress made of 24-Karat gold? Yes, it’s possible thanks to Zac Posen. The designer teamed up with Magnum Ice Cream to create a one-of-a-kind couture gown inspired by their newest frozen treat MAGNUM Gold?!—question mark and exclamation point their emphasis, not ours—a vanilla and salted caramel ice cream bar, available starting today. The result: A slinky sleeveless gown boasting more than 10,000 24-karat gold sequins in five different pailette sizes, a piece that has an estimated value of $1.5 million. “Creating my first-ever 24-karat gold dress was a truly priceless experience,” said Posen, who took two weeks to sew it together. “I’m naturally drawn to luxury and love to push my creativity, so the design process of creating a couture dress made of gold was thrilling.” For inspiration, he turned to the sweet treat. “The train reminds me of melting ice cream! The dress is so decadent.” The gown will make its debut at the Tribeca Film Festival on April 18 in As Good as Gold, a short film starring Joe Manganiello and Caroline Correa, and simultaneously on Facebook at facebook.com/magnum, so you can see all of its glitter in action.
