Product With a Purpose: Ben Affleck for TOMS Shoes

May 15, 2013 @ 1:00 pm

Ben Affleck is dipping his toes in TOMS shoes! The star teamed up with the one-for-one shoe company to design limited-edition shoes for men and women that supports his organization, the Eastern Congo Initiative (ECI). Affleck founded ECI in 2010 to help the people of the eastern Congo build up their community so that it can flourish both economically and socially. The shoe represents his organization, as it is inspired by traditional Congolese textiles. “Getting involved in something, helping others, improving the fabric of the universe—I believe that if you do that, even just a little bit, I think you’ll find your life gets better, too,” he said. Visit toms.com to purchase a pair for $59. Not only will TOMS donate a pair of shoes to a child in need in accordance to the company’s one-for-one model, $5 dollars from each sale will be donated toward ECI’s programs for youth and families in the region.

A Sunglasses Home Run: The Sunnies to Wear to a Baseball Game, Inspired by Kerry Washington

Apr 9, 2013 @ 11:30 am

Kerry Washington helped the Los Angeles Dodgers announce their starting lineup at a game this weekend, and we love the aviators she wore to shield her peepers for her day at the diamond. And we found them! Snag the Maverick style by TOMS at toms.com for $139. And just like the one-for-one model TOMS has with shoes, for every pair of frames you buy, a person with impaired vision receives a pair of prescription glasses, sight-saving surgery, or medical treatment.

Charlize Theron’s Pre-Oscars Preparation: “Start With the Heart” at TOMS Shoes

Feb 23, 2013 @ 11:07 am

How is Charlize Theron getting ready to present at Sunday’s Academy Awards? “This is how I’m getting ready, start with the heart,” the actress told InStyle.com during a private dinner at the recently-opened TOMS flagship store in Venice. During the height of Oscars weekend, together with TOMS Shoes founder Blake Mycoskie, the pair celebrated the launch of the third collaboration between the charitable shoe brand (for each pair bought, one is given to a child in need) and the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project (CTAOP), which focuses on keeping African youth safe from HIV/AIDS. “Blake, I’m not ever going to get married, but this is the closest I’m going to get to a marriage that actually works,” Theron joked. “Your team and your long-term commitment to us has been so amazing.” And their collaboration expanded: For the third go-around of the limited-edition footwear (in stores and toms.com next month), they created another women’s shoe, and a matching child pair, too—a natural evolution given that Theron’s son Jackson, loves to wear TOMS and the recently-married Mycoskie is planning to expand his family soon. “I think I have every style of TOMS that my son is wearing, yes, and he has these,” she said of the new style, which features the sun-inspired white and yellow CTAOP logo and the organization’s motto, Reach Out, Think Beyond, and Look Within scrawled inside. Theron credits her team for the design; for her, it’s all about the heart of the issue: “There is nothing that moves me as much as having these crates of shoes show up at schools in the middle of nowhere,” Theron said. “I invite anyone to come and try not to be emotional about it. It really is incredible.”

TOMS Launches One-for-One Eyewear!

Jun 8, 2011 @ 4:00 pm

Fans of TOMS shoes now have another reason to shop for a cause—the brand just expanded its ”One for One” business model to include eyewear! For every pair of $135 sunglasses purchased, TOMS will help give sight to people in need through medical treatment, prescription eyeglasses, and sight-saving surgery. “As I was out there distributing shoes, I saw many of the needs of people in the developing world, and vision impairments can be dealt with in an immediate way,” TOMS founder Blake Mycoskie (inset) told InStyle. The three styles of sunglasses feature symbolic stripes on the sides. “The first stripe represents you, the bright stripe at the back is the person who has been given sight, and the white stripe in the middle is TOMS, who brought these two people together,” Mycoskie explains. Pick up your own pair at TOMS.com.
