What Stella McCartney Wore to Meet the Queen

Mar 27, 2013 @ 10:40 am

Does it get any better than this, Stella McCartney? Yesterday, the British designer was awarded Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE)—an honor presented by Queen Elizabeth II herself!—due to her dedication and contributions to British fashion. After all, this is the woman to designed Great Britain’s uniforms for the London Olympics and dressed the Future Queen, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge multiple times, so this recognition makes the royal family official fans. So, for her bout at Buckingham Palace, McCartney’s outfit represented her own talents—she chose a cobalt blue skirt-suit she designed as well as a headpiece hand-sewn by her milliner pal Philip Treacy, which consisted of two Cartier jewels and a veil she bought as a teen, WWD reports. Papa Paul must be so proud.

NFL, Lady Gaga Style

Sep 17, 2012 @ 3:18 pm

With the Seattle Seahawks’ big win against the Dallas Cowboys last night and millions of fans counting down to tonight’s Monday Night Football showdowns, we’ve got NFL on the brain! And we’re not the only ones: Lady Gaga seems to be having quite the football moment herself. First, the performer sported a sequined New York Giants jersey, and then the Fame fragrance creator sat front row at celebrity milliner Philip Treacy’s London Fashion Week show—after opening the event!—in a helmet-shaped bouquet of flowers, which she paired with a green velvet bustier dress and lace boots by Alexander McQueen. We’re quite intrigued by Gaga’s fascination with football, and particularly her penchant for wearing interpretations of its uniform. Could 10-inch heel-less cleats be far behind? Tell us in comments, do you wear football-themed fashions?

Philip Treacy to Return to London Fashion Week!

Jul 18, 2012 @ 2:00 pm

Celebrity milliner Philip Treacy is staging a runway show at London Fashion Week this September! The Irish designer, whose fanciful toppers are loved by Kate Winslet, Madonna, Sarah Jessica Parker, and more, made his London Fashion Week debut in 1993, where supermodels like Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington, and Kate Moss worked his all-black creations.“The media went crazy when all those girls did my show and it completely changed perceptions of the hat,” the designer told The Telegraph. In 2000, Treacy left the London lineup to focus on Paris’s Couture Fashion Week and catering to his celebrity clients, which makes his upcoming runway return a long-awaited one! Her 12-minute set—in which she dressed in head-to-toe Givenchy, Bulgari earrings, and a Philip Treacy headdress—included some of her biggest hits, like “Vogue,” “Music,” “Express Yourself,” mixed in with her new single, “Give Me All Your Luvin’” featuring cheerleaders M.I.A. and Nicki Minajand even a Material Girl-remix of “Party Rock Anthem” with LMFAO. For her finale, she performed “Like a Prayer,” joined by a choir and Cee Lo Green. “People say everything has a limit, but limits do not exist with Madonna,” said Givenchy Haute Couture designer Riccardo Tisci, who created all of her looks for the show. So, what did you think? Total touchdown?! (And, oh yeah, the Giants won.) See more amazing moments from Madonna’s Super Bowl half-time show in the gallery!

Who Is Philip Treacy? Meet the Hat Designer to the Stars

May 4, 2011 @ 5:50 pm

When princesses and pop stars want a statement-making hat they turn to their favorite milliner: Philip Treacy (shown with Kate Winslet). Recently, his fanciful creations graced the heads of Sarah Jessica Parker, Serena Williams, and 37 members of the Royal Wedding party. So who is Mr. Treacy? The Irish-born designer has been creating toppers since the age of five, when he made miniature hats for his sisters’ dolls, and he later honed his sewing skills at Dublin’s National College of Art and Design and London’s Royal College of Art. Just before his graduation, Treacy showed his hats to Tatler fashion director Isabella Blow, who took the young designer under her wing. Treacy opened up shop in the basement of Blow’s London home, and eventually scored jobs designing hats for Chanel, Alexander McQueen, Ralph Lauren, and more. The five-time British Accessory Designer of the Year award winner has a loyal following: Lady Gaga, Demi Moore, and the British royal family are some of his best clients.
