Norma Kamali’s Latest Cause Was Inspired By Bridesmaids

Dec 27, 2012 @ 1:00 pm

Dynamo designer/wellness advocate Norma Kamali is spearheading a movement to stop objectification—and has Kristen Wiig to thank for it. Following a long-term preoccupation with women’s self-esteem issues, Kamali “saw Bridesmaids and thought, this is the most brilliant movie and the most telling about the culture and what it is that I’m trying to connect to,” she told InStyle.com. “In the beginning when Jon Hamm’s character is objectifying this young woman, who wants to believe that by objectifying herself and mistaking that for love, she will get love from him in the end.” After swapping stories with the women around her about everything from cat calls to workplace sexual harassment, Kamali launched the Stop Objectification site, which gives women a place to submit their own experiences of being objectified. “Tell everybody to just dump those stories,” says the designer. “When you have a secret and you haven’t been doing anything about it, it’s therapeutic to put a picture up and a statement up about who you are—you’re taking a positive, empowered action. We are more than what we look like; we’re a composite of experiences.” Watch her provocative “Hey Baby” video above and get inspired to share.

Jennifer Lopez’s New Song “Dance Again”: Watch the Video!

Apr 6, 2012 @ 11:30 am

Jennifer Lopez will dance and love as much as she wants to! That’s the message behind her latest single, “Dance Again,” and Lopez just premiered the video for the dance tune on American Idol last night. Enlisting her new boyfriend, 24-year-old dancer Casper Smart, the pair shimmies and shakes and blindfolds their way through a glitter storm, industrial steel rooms, and Lopez’s new Glowing perfume bottle—her 18th scent—filled with writhing half-naked bodies. (Lyrics include: “Baby your fire is lighting me up, the way that you move boy is reason enough, that I love to make love to you baby.” Sexy!) Her style for the short is quintessential bombshell J.Lo, complete with corseted bodysuits, fishnets, and a studded two-piece bodysuit by Norma Kamali. Though, there is one pertinent accessory that makes an appearance—a blindfold that says “Love is Blind,” which Smart and Lopez use on each other. Get the message? Watch the entire clip above and tell us what you think in the comments.

Norma Kamali Has Another Lower-Priced Line in the Works

Dec 20, 2010 @ 3:00 pm

Norma Kamali is planning to expand…even more! The designer (inset), who is known for her swimwear, sleeping bag coats and goddess dresses (as seen here on Sarah Jessica Parker in Sex and the City 2), told the crowd at the FashInvest’s Capital Conference last week in New York that she is working on a lower-price collection that will be exclusive to her Web site. Kamali, who already launched the successful NK for Walmart lower-priced line in 2008 (which she wore to the event), told InStyle exclusively, “The [new] collection is for those on a low budget and women who are simply smart shoppers with great style, who know how to mix high and low.” While Kamali is still in the early stages of creating the line and getting investors, it’s never too early to get excited for a lower-price designer collection—we can’t wait!
