Back when she debuted her now infamous bob in 2012, Julianne Hough hinted that she was eager to make an even more dramatic change — and two years later, she finally did it! Over the weekend, the star was spotted at Los Angeles’ LAX airport, working an ultra-short pixie cut. “I keep going shorter, it’s like the curse of the short hair syndrome,” she told us previously. “My friend has a pixie cut and I’ve been wanting to do her style. I probably won’t do that, but I want to.” And we’re so glad she did! The longer layers complement her face shape, and we think the shorter length is a welcome change for the upcoming spring season. As for what she’ll try next? “I’ve always wanted to shave my head, but that probably won’t happen either.” Take a closer look at Hough’s new cut, as well as more celebrity hair makeovers, in our gallery.

What’s Drew Barrymore’s Pregnancy Style Rule? “Find Something That Makes You Feel Good About Yourself”Jan 15, 2014 @ 9:30 pm
Finding something comfortable to wear when you’re pregnant is one thing, but it’s another when you’re smack-dab in the middle of awards season! “If you can just find something that makes you feel good about yourself, it’s a miracle,” said mom-to-be Drew Barrymore to InStyle.com during the Chanel dinner celebration for her new book, Find It In Everything. “Just find something that makes you feel good about yourself.” And that’s what she has done so far, from her lemon-yellow Vionnet chiffon dress at the 2014 People’s Choice Awards, to the floral-appliqued Monique Lhuillier gown at the recent Golden Globes, Barrymore has chosen gowns that not only make her feel great, but offer her support and structure.
Even though the starlet has glowed on the red carpet, it doesn’t mean the search for comfortable maternity wear has been easy for Barrymore, “I don’t understand why there are not more options in maternity clothing, it’s so frustrating,” she explained. “I just wish that there were funkier blouses and pants that fit a certain way that weren’t like pulling elastic up over your head because nobody wants to wear pantyhose up to their neck. I’m sorry, but I don’t.” Could the solution be a potential Drew Barrymore maternity line? “I would love it!” Barrymore exclaimed. “Just to help women through this journey, because it’s really tough going out there.”
“If you can just find something that makes you feel good about yourself, it’s a miracle,” says Drew Barrymore.
Tough it may be, but during last night’s dinner to celebrate Barrymore’s photographic collection of heart-shaped objects in her new book, Find It In Everything (now available for $18), she looked stunning in a head-to-toe black Chanel look and was joined by husband Will Kopelman and a few of her close friends from Reese Witherspoon to Julianne Hough. “She is one of the most normal, down-to-earth, good females out there,” Hough gushed to InStyle.com about the Barrymore. “You can tell it comes from her heart, it’s all about passion, love, and joy for her.” To see more celebrities from this week’s biggest parties, look through our gallery!
Hollywood’s recent trend of stars cutting their lengthy strands shorter has been reversed by Julianne Hough! Before attending a party for Beyoncé‘s Mrs. Carter World Tour in Los Angeles, the star paid a visit to the Nine Zero One salon to take her chic bob into mile-long layers. Truth be told, a Beyoncé concert is reason enough for us to hit up the salon, but we thought the style’s transformative quality was perfect to change up your look for a holiday party, and caught up with the salon’s co-owners Riawna Capri and Nikki Lee to get their pro tips on DIY-ing a similar effect.
“To get Julianne’s look without the commitment of Great Lengths extensions, you can opt for Hair U Wear Put In Pieces,” the duo told InStyle.com. “These are clip-in extensions that can be used over and over again.” Clip-in additions can slip out if not placed correctly, so avoid any unexpected party fouls by first teasing the area you plan to apply the extensions with a fine-toothed comb. This gives the pieces a place to grip onto, and if you need extra insurance, give the backcombed portion a blast of dry shampoo or hairspray after positioning the hair clips. “It’s a perfect look for holiday because it’s versatile — it can be worn in a cute updo, or down with chic waves,” Lee and Capri added.
New York Fashion Week is officially over, but the imaginary closing bell didn’t ring until after last night’s epic party thrown by Estée Lauder. The beauty company celebrated its new fragrance Modern Muse ($58/1 oz, esteelauder.com) by asking its designer, artist and editor pals to invite their own muses as their plus-ones to the bash, held at the Guggenheim Museum in the Upper East Side. Among them was InStyle’s Ariel Foxman, who walked the carpet with a force who inspires him, September cover girl Drew Barrymore (in vintage Chanel and Marc Jacobs). “We’re on a total prom date!” Barrymore raved to InStyle.com. The evening began hours before the pair hit the carpet, Barrymore spilled. “He basically picked me up from my parents, who are my in-laws. We’re just on a very special night!”
And their special night continued inside where Barrymore joined Hailee Steinfeld (in Marc Jacobs), Julianne Hough (in Emilio Pucci) and Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen under the museum’s dome, lit in alternating blue, green, gold and red, for an electro-string performance by The Dolls, who doubled as the night’s DJs.
The evening also served as a time for the guests to reflect about what a muse really means. “I think it’s someone that makes you want to be better, you know?” Barrymore said. Arizona Muse (in Emilio Pucci), the face of the fragrance, put it simply: “A muse is someone who is inspirational to the people around them and who is just living their lives as themselves, and that beauty shows.” Click to see the evening’s looks and more inspirational muse moments.
Julianne Hough was all over Los Angeles last week — out at Chateau Marmont, leaving the gym, taking off at LAX Airport — wearing this eye-catching bauble. The ring is by Aviva Rose Jewelry, a line created by Chicago-area designer Pamela Cohen, and it features blue moonstone with a diamond leaf embellishment on a rose gold setting. The piece was originally picked out for Hough rather than by Hough, thanks to her stylist Anita Patrickson. But the triple threat singer, actress and dancer loved it so much, she had to keep it for looks beyond the red carpet. If you need one, too, scoop up yours for $300; visit avivarosejewelry.com for store locations or call 847-287-2246 to order.

InStyle brought the Hamptons to the West Coast this year for our 12th annual Summer Soiree! Held poolside at the famed Mondrian Los Angeles Hotel, guests like Bryce Dallas Howard, Jenna Elfman, Ashley Madekwe, Ashley Tisdale, and Julianne Hough mingled over light bites while enjoying the panoramic view of Hollywood Hills and the Sunset Strip. The beachy decor stayed in line with the Hamptons theme with hundreds of lanterns hanging from the trees, and shoreside touches like vases of white flowers, sand and seashell-covered trays, and oversized lounge chairs adorned the pool deck. “There are some good dresses here tonight — I’m seeing a lot of things that I’m liking,” Elfman told us. Attendees had the chance to win shoes from InStyle‘s collaboration with Nine West and snap pictures in a photo booth, which posted directly to Twitter and Instagram, but Hough was most-excited about the impressive candy spread. “Honestly, I just walked in, and I’m about to go grab a drink and head straight for the candy bar,” she said. “I will be over there for a good 30 minutes!” Click the photo to take an inside look at our hottest party of the year, and to see who else was on the guest list.

Julianne Hough was glowing at the Los Angeles premiere of Paradise, and we think her effortless smoky eye combined with her pop of color blush would make for a perfect low-key office look. Her russet-toned eye was the focal point, and was balanced by clean skin and a soft pink lip. Hough’s makeup artist Mai Quynh began by applying Laura Mercier’s Oil-Free Supreme Foundation ($45; lauramercier.com) all over to impart a flawless finish, then blended Illamasqua’s cream blush in Rude ($26; sephora.com) onto the apples of her cheeks. She then emphasized the star’s cheekbones with NARS’ Bronzer in Laguna ($36; narscosmetics.com) to create a slight contour before moving onto the eyes. “I used the Dolce & Gabbana Eye Colour Quad in Contrasts 140 ($59; saks.com). I applied the peach color to the inner lid, and mixed the plum and brown colors before applying along her lash line and lid,” Quynh said. “Then, I blended the darker shadow into Julianne’s crease, and continued the plum and brown colors along the lower lash line.” As a finishing touch, Quynh swept on Lancome’s Definicils Mascara in black ($27; lancome-usa.com), and gave the star a sheer petal lip with Chanel’s Rouge Coco Shine in Interlude ($33; chanel.com).
