Feb 14, 2013 @ 3:51 pm

Milly by Michelle Smith‘s fall collection debuted at New York Fashion Week yesterday—and we have your behind-the-scenes look here! The designer gave us a sneak peek at her fall collection with this sketch of an electric blue coat over a blue and orange tartan dress, finished with black booties. And she wasn’t the only person to use that color combination yesterday: The Michael Kors collection used the same peach and denim tones. Consider this your color trend alert for fall!

Milly for Banana Republic: Coming May 2013

Jan 7, 2013 @ 10:27 am

Banana Republic has gone mod with Mad Men and 19th-century with Anna Karenina for its collaborations—and now it’s getting some modern preppy inspiration from Milly! The retailer announced today that they teamed up with Milly designer Michelle Smith for a capsule collection set to hit stores this summer. Inspired by the easy-breezy lifestyle of the Hamptons, the lineup contains 46 pieces for women and 16 items for men (this also counts as Smith’s first-ever foray into menswear design). The items feature six of Milly’s classic prints, as well as one never-before-seen pattern created just for the collection. The women’s offerings include woven colorblock maxi dresses, embroidered mini-skirts, and patterned shorts—ranging in price from $45 to $175—in summer colors like lime, coral, and navy, as well as accessories like jewelry, handbags, and lightweight scarves, which range from $39.50 to $130. Menswear runs from $25 to $65. The line will be available in May 2013, both online and in stores.

Milly Designer Michelle Smith on Sofia Vergara: “She’s A Knock Out”

Sep 12, 2012 @ 4:46 pm

Olympic gold medalist slash budding fashion designer Ryan Lochte seemed thoroughly impressed by the designs as he sat front row at the Milly Spring/Summer 2013 show this afternoon at New York Fashion Week. And he’s not the only one! In July Modern Family star and InStyle cover girl Sofia Vergara stepped out in New York in the lovely yellow Josephine dress from the brand. “She’s a knock out!” Milly designer Michelle Smith told InStyle.com today at the show. “That was really exciting to see her in one of my dresses.” And here’s an extra bit of exciting news: the dress is now on sale! It’s $134 on Neiman Marcus’ cusp.com right now. Hooray! Happy shopping.

Milly’s New Runway-Inspired Children’s Collection

Oct 31, 2011 @ 4:00 pm

Milly goes pint-sized! Inspired by her daughter Sophia’s fashion needs, Milly designer Michelle Smith created a children’s collection named Milly Minis, a fitting name as the pieces are mini versions of her runway styles. “The Milly aesthetic remains consistent with my collections—bold, vibrant, smart and modern, with a little vintage twist,” Smith tells InStyle.com. “However, for Milly Minis, I keep the cuts modest and innocent.” The new fall children’s styles, from leopard-print coats to check-pattern skirts, are fun and festive options for holiday dressing. And you can be sure Smith’s daughter/muse will be wearing them: “We often wear pieces from the same collection,” Smith says. “Little girls love to dress like Mommy!” See more Milly looks get Mini-ized in the gallery.

Milly’s New Store Offers Custom Bridal Boutique

Aug 2, 2011 @ 4:00 pm

Milly designer Michelle Smith recently opened her first U.S. store in New York—a celebration in itself—and even more exciting, it features an in-store bridal boutique for those who want to wear the label for their wedding (and especially all of the rehearsal dinners, showers, and events leading up to it). Brides-to-be will find 12 limited-edition styles at the store, from short reception-ready dresses to long wedding gowns hand-crafted from silk, satin, lace, and sateen. “The girl who comes to me is looking for something that you won’t find anywhere else,” Smith told InStyle.com. “With larger companies, a dress becomes very common and recognizable. Here, you’re looking at a dress that might be one of a kind, and girls like the exclusivity.”

VISIT THE BOUTIQUE: Each dress is custom-made and cut to order. Shorter styles start at $365; gowns fall in the $1,000-plus range. To book an appointment with Michelle Smith or one of her consultants, call 212-395-9100. Visit the boutique at 900 Madison Avenue, at 73rd St.
