MaxMara’s Thrilling Reaction to Dressing Duchess Catherine’s Baby Bump

Feb 19, 2013 @ 1:45 pm

Mom-to-be Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge loves MaxMara! Today, the royal made her first public appearance in weeks to visit the Hope House in London, a non-profit facility that treats women with addictions, and royal watchers the world over waited to see how she’d dress her baby bump for the outing. Her choice? The Italian label’s gray jersey printed wrap dress, a style no longer sold in stores (though similar versions are available). And the Maramotti family behind the label is thrilled to see the Duchess in one of their designs. “To see a style icon wearing a MaxMara dress so beautifully makes me feel so proud,” said MaxMara U.S. brand ambassador Maria Giulia Maramotti, who is the granddaughter of MaxMara founder Achille Maramotti. “Catherine represents everything the MaxMara woman stands for: She is beautiful, full of energy and has such a natural elegance that comes from her consistent style. She does not follow trends, yet she is well aware of them; and the trends she does pick up on are always consistent with her timeless style. Is there anything more royal than that?” Divine, indeed!

Scandal’s Olivia Pope Fashion Details from Costume Designer

Nov 12, 2012 @ 6:21 pm

Even in her downtime Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) is dressed to perfection. On the last episode of Scandal we saw Pope’s softer side: relaxing at her impressive pad, dining on popcorn and Boudreaux (a balanced meal in our opinion!), and stepping into the office sans bigwig clients. The show’s costume designer, Lyn Paolo, filled us in on Pope’s enviable ensemble (pictured) of a creamy silk Gucci blouse and cozy Escada cardigan paired with Max Mara pants. “In the same way that we try to soften Olivia’s look when she is lounging at home, there are also moments at Pope and Associates when she is not with a client,” Paolo told InStyle.com. “We like to get her out of her suits and into something softer and very feminine.” Now that’s our idea of business casual! Catch Scandal Thursdays at 10/9c on ABC.

“I think it’s so incredible!” Carolina Herrera told InStyle.com of Fashion Group International 29th Annual Night of Stars Gala last night, held at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City, which honors the industry’s biggest stars. The always-elegant Herrera radiated a joyful glow all evening, and for good reason—she earned the acclaimed fashion organization’s prestigious Superstar Award, presented to her by her close friend Renee Zellweger. “Carolina Herrera helps women see themselves with confidence and celebrates their great life by making them unforgettable,” Zellweger told the attendees, which also included Kelly Ripa and Seth Meyers’s girlfriend Alexi Ashe dressed in Herrera designs. “She is a visionary.” The gala’s theme, Dream Catchers, also captured the feeling of dreams realized by the night’s Star honorees, Derek Lam (“I will continue to work hard to truly deserve this recognition,” he said), Gareth Pugh, and Haider Ackermann (the latter accepted his honor from Karl Lagerfeld). Meanwhile, Sarah Jessica Parker presented the Lord & Taylor Fashion Oracle award to L’Wren Scott—“She has the ability to telescope what’s necessary, what’s needed, and what people want,” Parker told InStyle.com—while Viola Davis presented the Brand Heritage Award to Max Mara’s Nicola Maramotti. “It seems like every time I put on a Max Mara dress or a coat or a suit, it enhances what I am, it does not hide what I am,” she said of the brand. “Fashion can not be worn, it has to enhance what’s already inside you.” With so many fashion stars in one place, Davis also emphasized that everyone has a little star quality in them, too. “It’s the people who are not afraid to take risks, the people who are confident and comfortable with themselves,” she told InStyle.com. We couldn’t agree more.

Kentucky Derby Hats: Kate Walsh Explains Her Choice

May 9, 2011 @ 1:45 pm

California girl Kate Walsh ventured over to Louisville, Kentucky for her very fist visit to the Kentucky Derby this weekend, and InStyle caught up with the actress as she made her final and most important outfit decision—the hat. “I want something simple, but elegant,” the Private Practice star told us over the phone. “I don’t want to have the hat that eclipses everything else, and I don’t want to look funereal.” She said she had several choices to pair with her white Max Mara dress, including toppers with veils, but it all came down to size and shape. “You want something that’s strong, but not too overwhelming,” she explained. “You don’t want to look like the crazy hat lady.” Walsh revealed her final choice—a game day decision—when she arrived at the Derby to host Mott’s Garden Blend Suite with a navy wide-brim hat with a single feather from Ariane Millinery.
