Kate Middleton’s Tiara: Jewelry Designers Sketch Dream Tiaras

Apr 4, 2011 @ 9:45 am

According to tradition, a royal bride wears a tiara on her wedding day. Queen Elizabeth II wore a tiara for her wedding to the Duke of Edinburgh, as did Princess Diana, who wore the famous diamond Spencer tiara, a family heirloom piece. What tiara will princess-to-be Kate Middleton wear if she so chooses to for her April 29th nuptials to Prince William? A likely conclusion would be that the Queen will lend her a tiara from the Crown Jewels of the United Kingdom collection. However, in anticipation of this momentous royal accessory, InStyle tapped the creative minds of some of our favorite jewelry designers to see what they would design for Middleton’s special day. See tiara sketches for Middleton from Chopard, Van Cleef & Arpels, Swarovski, Royal Asscher, and more in the gallery.

7 Holiday Jewelry Picks Under $100

Dec 16, 2010 @ 3:59 pm

Designer Shoshanna Gruss partnered with Judith Ripka to launch her second jewelry collection on QVC this week. One of our favorite items from the line are the gemstone-hued Freeform Shape Drop Earrings (shown in amethyst purple, $27; at QVC.com), which Gruss also loves. “If I wear my hair in a ponytail, they are a great statement look,” the designer told us. “And even if I wear my hair down, the purple color is bold enough that it peaks through and adds the perfect pop of color to my outfit.” Check out the gallery to see six other great holiday pieces, all under $100.

It’s not exactly a newsflash that Oprah likes giving things away. But she especially likes giving things away to people who deserve it, and she especially especially likes giving things away during the holiday season. Compound that with her show’s final season, and you’ve got one huge giveaway blowout! Cue Oprah’s Ultimate Favorite Things show, which aired today and left us reeling! Oprah filled the audience with people who had given back to their families, community or the world, hired a full staff of medics in case of excitement-induced collapses, and let the giving begin. Dazzling highlights? A custom Philip Stein Diamond Watch with 85 diamonds, a Tory Burch Tory tote and Reva flats, Judith Ripka canary earrings, a custom made Ralph Lauren cashmere sweater and throw, a Nikon D3100 Digital SLR camera, Jay-Z’s new book, Decoded, a $1,000 closet makeover from The Container Store, a five-year subscription to Netflix, a 3-D Sony Bravia television, a seven-day Royal Caribbean cruise, and more. The Black Eyed Peas closed Part 1 of the show, which continues with Part 2 (yes you’re reading correctly) on Monday. Could a fleet of cars be in the future?
