Duro Olowu Creates Collection for jcpenney: First Look!

Jcpenney is launching a limited-edition designer collaboration this spring! This is a new initiative for the retailer, which like Target (Jason WuMissoni, and now Prabal Gurung), Kohl’s (Narciso RodriguezDerek Lam), and Macy’s (Giambattista ValliKarl Lagerfeld), now makes it really easy for shoppers to score designer duds for non-designer prices. To kick it off, jcp brought Print Mix Master Duro Olowu on board for an everything-is-under-$100 lineup set to hit stores this March. “I’ve always said no to collaborations, but I thought jcpenney was a great opportunity,” the Nigerian-born, London-based designer—and favorite of First Lady Michelle Obama—told InStyle.com at an exclusive preview of the line in New York. “I’ve always tried to give women a sense of inner beauty with joy, and now it’s just the right time to make that more democratic. When I was thinking about this collection, I wanted to give American classic shapes and ideas a global flair.” And that’s just what he did—infusing his eye-popping prints like gingham, brocade, and floral on clothes (skirts, blouses, trench coats), accessories (jewelry, shoes, bags), and home items (dishes, luggage, trays, and notebooks). He even brought pals into the mix, including artist Bella Foster to develop the painterly prints and fashion icon Iris Apfel to create multi-colored bags and necklaces. “This collection is for anyone, from 18 to 80,” Olowu added. “Everything has a flattering element, whether you mix prints or pull out one piece and keep it simple.” Get a sneak peek at the Duro Olowu for jcp collection in the gallery, and shop it in stores and on jcp.com for $10 to $100 March through May 2013. Is it spring yet?

Nastia Liukin Debuts Supergirl for JCPenney

Jul 19, 2010 @ 5:22 pm

After Nastia Liukin won gold at the 2008 Olympics she didn’t go to Disney World, she went to New York Fashion Week! Now, the style-obsessed gymnast (who served as the face of BCBG MaxAzria’s Spring 2009 collection) is set to debut the Supergirl by Nastia clothing line, which hits JCPenney stores nationwide tomorrow. “I’ve always been into fashion, but when I was training seven hours a day, six days a week there was just no time to pursue it,” Liukin told us. “And everything moves so fast in the fashion industry!” The collection of dance wear, dresses and super-girly pieces like leggings and shrug tops is aimed at the back-to-school set. “My fan base is mostly young girls and I wanted to use the line to inspire them,” Liukin explained. “At the Olympics I did my routine on the uneven bars to the song ‘Supergirl’ by Saving Jane and when it came time to name the collection, I thought, ‘What better way to feel empowered than to wear the Supergirl shield on your clothing?’” More

Nastia Liukin Launches Tween Line

Mar 23, 2010 @ 8:45 am

Olympic gymnast Nastia Liukin is going for the gold in the fashion arena with a new collection for girls 8- 12. The line, called Supergirl by Nastia, will launch exclusively at JCPenney on July 20th, just in time for back-to-school season. Expect burnout tees, knit dresses with detachable necklines, tunics, tie-dyed hoodies and dance and fleece activewear. “Being comfortable and stylish is always my goal, and I get so much inspiration from the younger kids, what they wear, what colors they like,” Liukin, who won the gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, told WWD.
