The beloved brand’s creative director (and self-proclaimed footwear enthusiast) Jenna Lyons gives InStyle readers a peek inside the making of the luxe new line in this exclusive video. Watch the clip above to see the flirty Etta pump transform from a simple sketch at J.Crew‘s New York City headquarters into what J.Crew calls a “shiny pony” in the hands of skilled craftsmen in a small workshop in Pisa, Italy, where the collection is brought to life. “Anyone who thinks that a shoe isn’t informative about who you are is making a mistake,” quips Lyons, as she shows off the Italian Shoe Collection’s jeweled flats, sequined heels, and super-soft suede pumps. The entire collection, priced between $125 and $378, is now available in stores and online at jcrew.com.

This fall, the girl-next-door J.Crew woman is getting a dose of Moroccan inspiration. “I went to Marrakech and couldn’t get it out of my head when I started working on the collection,” Tom Mora, Head of Women’s Design, told InStyle.com. “Embroideries, beading, rug patterns, the colors of the sunsets—they were perfect inspiration.” The result: jewel tone suiting, rich brocades, and embellished overcoats (a favorite of Mora’s). Yesterday the ladies dressed in their best to celebrate Barack Obama as he was sworn into office for a second term President of the United States. First Lady Michelle Obama looked radiant as she proudly stood beside her husband in a Thom Browne navy and light blue checked coat, which she accessorized with an embellished J.Crew belt, gloves, and Reed Krakoff boots. Vice President Joe Biden’s wife Jill Biden wore a little white dress with a gray coat, both by Lela Rose. Later that evening at the Inaugural Ball, Alicia Keys radiated in a patriotic red Michael Kors gown as she sang her hit girl-power anthem”Girl on Fire.” To see what all of the other famous guests and performers wore to yesterday’s festivities, click through the gallery!
