Lisa Ling’s Wardrobe on The Job: Shop Her Looks!

Feb 15, 2013 @ 4:47 pm

Emmy award winner Lisa Ling has a new reality show: The Job on CBS. In each episode, five candidates participate in several rounds of elimination challenges to compete for dream gigs at fabulous places, like Epic Records, Major League Soccer, and Gilt. And with a show based on being office-ready, Ling upped her work attire, thanks to the show’s stylist, Nicole Young. We caught up with Young to get the inside scoop on Ling’s polished-but-edgy wardrobe, which includes a mix of contemporary pieces, plus a few custom dresses from Young’s eponymous label (other celeb fans include Rachel Zoe, Gabrielle Union, and  Joy Bryant). Click “See the Photos” for more details and check out The Job on CBS tonight and every Friday at 8 p.m. EST.

Helmut Lang’s Runway Shoes by LD Tuttle: Exclusive Sketch to Reality

Feb 15, 2013 @ 3:37 pm

Helmut Lang designers Nicole and Michael Colovos called upon shoe designer Tiffany Tuttle of LD Tuttle to put the finishing touches on their Picasso-inspired fall 2013 collection footwear—and Tuttle gave InStyle.com a sneak peek at her design process! “We focused on morphing geometric shapes and piecing them together, and the graphic lines and cutouts come from this concept,” Tuttle told us of these lace-up, cut-out booties, which debuted at New York Fashion Week, along with calf-hair covered boots, electric blue heels, and bright winter white pumps. “The shoes work off the clean lines and minimal-but-strong look that Nicole and Michael Colovos created for Helmut Lang.” Add these to your fall shopping wish list!

Game of Thrones-Inspired Fashion: Helmut Lang’s Fall Collection

Jul 30, 2012 @ 2:40 pm

Helmut Lang’s signature downtown look got a dose of medieval for fall 2012, with a Game of Thrones-inspired collection that any noble in Westeros—or any fan in our non-mythical world—would love. Creative directors Nicole and Michael Colovos said they looked for an “interpretation of The Game of Thrones guardians,” and as a result, “their dual existence of forest life and a stark minimal world is embodied in the mixing of hard and soft fabrics, tree bark printed leather, and minimal body conscious silhouettes.” In addition, the lineup boasts textured sweaters evoking body armor and fauna-printed pants and dresses, as well as a first-time shoe collaboration with LD Tuttle designer Tiffany Tuttle. “I strove to design footwear for the Helmut Lang collection that was powerful but understated, allowing the materials to create beautiful shapes on their own,” Tuttle said of her five-piece capsule, which includes wedge booties and over-the-knee styles covered in stringray, rubbed suede, and a blood-spattered print. Click through the gallery to see more of Helmut Lang’s Game of Thrones-inspired looks, and shop the collection starting this month at Helmut Lang stores and helmutlang.com.

“Helmut Lang concentrated on outerwear with this season and created its most chic jacket yet, a reversible fur-and-leather jacket, perfect for all moods. But it was the long sleek black shearling coat worn with a very fine long cashmere tank dress that was my favorite.”

Aug 10, 2010 @ 10:00 am

This spring, the Council of Fashion Designers of America partnered with NYCEDC and Newmark Knight Frank to welcome a dozen up-and-coming designers to their new Fashion Incubator—a 10,000 square foot N.Y.C. Garment District loft that leases studio space to select tenants at below-market rents. The hand-picked group includes Prabal Gurung, Subversive Jewelry designer Justin Giunta, and Alice Ritter, who told InStyle after a recent visit, “I feel like Jaime Sommers, the Bionic Woman, in the incubator! The CFDA is making us smarter, stronger, better designers and entrepreneurs.” Click through our gallery to find out more about these 12 designers to watch.
