The Top Two Fashion Moments at Cannes, According to Celebrity Stylist Elizabeth Stewart

May 31, 2013 @ 1:15 pm

With the hundreds of gowns that graced the Cannes Film Festival red carpet this year, which ones looked best? Who better to ask than celebrity celebrity stylist Elizabeth Stewart. “There are so many [I loved]!” she told InStyle.com at the P.S. ARTS Bag Lunch in Holmby Hills, California yesterday, an event she co-hosted to raise funds for the non-profit children’s arts education organization P.S. Arts. But when forced to narrow it down, she chose Freida Pinto’s coral Gucci gown and Jessica Chastain’s beaded violet Givenchy design. While Stewart put the stars in these two looks as their stylist, that’s not the only reason they rose to the top of her list. Here’s why:

FREIDA PINTO
“It was just so her,” Stewart explained. “This incredible bright coral with this cool belt and it was just a very Frieda moment.”

JESSICA CHASTAIN
“The purple on Jessica was just so hard to pull off and she pulled it off so beautifully and it’s just this incredible, one of a kind, custom-made dress,” said Stewart. “She just looked perfect in it.”

Punks Who Still Rock: Madonna and Debbie Harry at the 2013 Met Gala

May 7, 2013 @ 11:00 am

The fashion world got punk’d last night when typically-prim stars like Allison Williams, Anne Hathaway, and Ginnifer Goodwin added edge to their style in honor of the Met Gala’s 2013 theme, Punk: Chaos to Couture. But nobody got into the spirit quite like the evening’s original rebels, Madonna and Debbie Harry. Madge kicked things off  in true punk form pairing Givenchy‘s spikes, fishnet, and tartan (dog collar included!), while Harry kept things decidedly badass in draped chains, sheer panels, and black shades, naturally. Click through the gallery to see the full red carpet fashion show.

Givenchy Designed Rihanna’s “Diamonds World Tour” Costumes: See the Sketches

Rihanna‘s “Diamonds World Tour” launched Friday in Buffalo, New York—and to shine bright, she looked to Givenchy’s Riccardo Tisci to create her opening looks! Tisci, who counts Rooney Mara, Mila Kunis, and Liv Tyler among his fans, designed a floor-length ruffled silk crepe cape (left), embellished with 3D collar embroidery, for the singer. When she drops that topper, it reveals three pieces underneath (right), including a parka printed with a silver target and stars on its back. “Rihanna represents what young and amazing means today. She is punk and talented. She offers intelligence, energy, and pure beauty,” Tisci said in a statement. “She is the face of her generation.” And that face gets the most special customization: the golden bullets on the cuff of her hood have “RiRi” inscribed on them, and her complete second look is covered in dozens of black Swarvoski crystals. “Like diamonds in the sky,” indeed. Check to see if Rihanna’s coming to a city near you on ticketmaster.com.

Runway Looks We Love: Givenchy

Mar 4, 2013 @ 3:30 pm

Anyone who considers florals too feminine, think again! For fall, Givenchy‘s Riccardo Tisci presented a bouquet of anything-but-precious designs that blended nature prints with tough leather and plaid. And there were more surprising pairings, like flowing maxiskirts layered with chunky knits. Though, nothing encapsulated the collection’s playful vibe quite like the quirky toppers, some of which featured Bambi cartoons. See our favorite looks in the gallery!
