Why Mad Men Star Elisabeth Moss Really Cut and Dyed Her Hair

Jun 19, 2013 @ 11:15 am

What inspired Elisabeth Moss to pull an Anne Hathaway punk bleached-out pixie in May? Spontaneity, she told InStyle.com at the 2013 Crystal + Lucy Awards in Beverly Hills. “I did a photo shoot where we pinned it back and made it look like this and it was really like a punk shoot,” she told InStyle.com. “I loved it, and so the next day I had to do a talk show and I walked into the dressing room and I was like ‘Let’s cut it off’ because I really liked it.” And it’s working out so far—it’s low maintenance with consistent results. “It’s so much easier for me because I can’t do my own hair, so when I don’t get it done professionally, nothing happens,” she said. “If it is blonde and short, it’s so much easier for me.” Gorgeous!

Beyoncé’s Mrs. Carter Show Tour Costumes: All the Details (and Photos!)

Beyoncé kicked off her Mrs. Carter Show World Tour last night in Belgrade, Serbia, and for those of you just as obsessed with Bey’s elaborate stage fashion as her girl power anthems, you’ll be satisfied. She delivered costumes by DSquared2, Emilio Pucci, Julien Macdonald, The Blonds, and Ralph & Russo, and shoes by Stuart Weitzman (who also designed her pumps for her glitzy, Vegas-themed show at Revel in Atlantic City last summer). “Dressing someone like Beyoncé is beyond great,” Pucci creative director Peter Dundas told InStyle.com. “She’s an incredible mix of beauty, artistry, and just pure energy. Watching her rehearse before our midnight fittings made me want to run home and sketch!  She’s a true icon and doing the costumes for her show was a privilege for me and for Emilio Pucci.” Click the photo above to see more looks from the show, and click here to find out where she’s performing near you.

The promos for the American Music Awards promised our playlist would come alive—and it did! With 17 performances throughout the three-hour broadcast, we had our heads bobbing to the music all night, which is why we rounded up our favorite performances for you right here. Nicki Minaj, who won for Best Rap/Hip-Hop Artist and Album, wowed with a winter wonderland performance of her new single “Freedom,” No Doubt’s Gwen Stefani epitomized her new song “Looking Hot” with an Emilio Pucci crystal-embellished houndstooth jacket, and Korean pop sensation Psy shocked the audience when he brought out special guest MC Hammer for a “2 Legit 2 Quit” and “Gangham Style” dance mash-up to close the show. “With Psy I knew right away that he’s a good guy,” MC Hammer told reporters after the performance. “I told him dance has only moved the planet four times. James Brown with his dance shifted the planet. Michael Jackson with his dance shifted the planet. Yours truly, Hammertime, shifted the planet. And now Psy shifted the planet. So, to be with somebody who shifted the planet, and have fun—I loved doing it and we had a great time together.” Click through to see all our favorite performances!

Peekaboo! We See You Kristen, Christa, Theresa, and Ashley

Look who played peekaboo! This week, red carpets were full of very sheer looks, with Kristen StewartChrista B. AllenTeresa Palmer, and Ashley Greene all wearing see-through styles in a 48-hour time period. Stewart chose Zuhair Murad for Twilight’s London premiere, Allen worked Catherine Malandrino at GQ’s Man of the Year Awards, Palmer went bare in Emilio Pucci for Twilight’s screening in Hollywood, and Greene tried lace Wes Gordon for the CFDA Fashion Fund Award ceremony. While these looks dare to bare, the look is actually something many women can pull off. So you don’t expose too much, look for pieces with built-in coverage, like double-layer pockets and panels or strategically placed prints. Most importantly, this isn’t a grab-and-go shopping venture—the fabric has little hanger appeal, so you must try it on!

Plus, see another trend we love, black and white!
