Dallas Episode 9 Fashion: Rebecca’s Banana Republic Coat and More

Aug 2, 2012 @ 12:05 pm

A new episode of Dallas premiered last night, and we caught up with the show’s costume designer, Rachel Sage Kunin, to get the exclusive details about the Texan looks she created. Fun fact: Kunin put Rebecca (Julie Gonzalo) in this gray Banana Republic coat and sherbet BCBG sweater for a very specific reason: “Rebecca has severely jeopardized her relationship with Christopher (Jesse Metcalfe) and is determined to prove her commitment to him,” Kunin told InStyle.com. “Given her newfound responsibility—being pregnant—I felt it important to use gray in her costume which is a sign of maturity.” Click through the gallery for Kunin’s take on more of last night’s outfits.

First Look: Banana Republic’s Anna Karenina-Inspired Collection

Last month, Banana Republic announced its first film-themed line, inspired by Keira Knightley‘s Anna Karenina remake (see the trailer here!), and now we have a sneak peek at the collection! Though the adaptation, true to Tolstoy’s novel, takes place in the late 1800s, Banana’s creative director Simon Kneen (inset) went with a ’50s feel, thanks to costume designer Jacqueline Durran’s Dior New Look-inspired outfits for the film. “You always take something that’s inspiring, and make it modern and relevant,” Kneen told InStyle.com. “We took the simplicity of the 1950s couture shapes—how architectural they were—and worked them back into the 1870s,” said Durran. This means shoppers can expect to see military coats with nipped-in waists, loads of costume jewelry, and Russian faux furs, ranging in price from $30 to $325. Click through the gallery to see Banana Republic’s Anna Karenina-inspired holiday looks, and shop them when they hit stores this October, one month before the film’s release.

Banana Republic to Create Anna Karenina-Inspired Collection

Jun 29, 2012 @ 4:30 pm

Banana Republic loves to time travel! After two rounds of retro capsule collections inspired by Mad Men, the mass retailer is launching its first film-themed line, this one inspired by Keira Knightley’s new period piece, Anna Karenina, in theaters this November. (See the trailer here!) Though the adaptation, true to Tolstoy’s novel, takes place in the late 1800s, Banana’s creative director Simon Kneen promises a capsule with more of a ’50s feel, thanks to costume designer Jacqueline Durran’s Dior New Look inspiration for the film. “It was historical but had a twist to it as well,” he told WWD. Think hats and coats with faux fur and “piles” of costume jewelry, ranging in price from $30 to $325. The collection will hit stores in October, one month before the film’s release.

Banana Republic Sells a Middleton-Inspired ‘Pippa’ Dress

Mar 9, 2012 @ 2:00 pm

Banana Republic just made it easier to score Pippa Middleton‘s style. One of the store’s new spring arrivals is this silk “Pippa” dress ($175 at banana republic.com), which boasts a similar neckline to the royal-in-law’s famous Alexander McQueen maid of honor gown. It comes in rich magenta and blue, shades the younger Middleton adores. And this isn’t the first time Banana Republic took some royal inspiration: The retailer also sells a “Kate” sheath dress ($130 at bananarepublic.com), modeled after a khaki bandage Reiss style the Duchess wore to meet President Obama.
