For his hotly-anticipated debut at Balenciaga, Alexander Wang showed a polished fall collection that stayed true to the historic fashion house’s roots. Marble was the theme of the 35-piece lineup, and the stone inspiration worked its way into the black, white, and gray clothes and accessories, as well as the actual runway itself. True to form, Wang delivered touches of his signature cool-girl spin—the cocktail dresses were designed to look refined and covered-up in the front and revealingly sexy in the back. The designer’s knack for accessories also came through, with toe-cleavage baring heels, boxy bags with silver frames, and sleek knotted silver cuffs—all minimal with a bit of a sexy edge, a signature evident in everything Alexander Wang touches. Sarah Burton produced another fantasy collection for Alexander McQueen’s spring 2012 runway show. The creative director and McQueen protégé released pieces covered in voluminous ruffles of cascading chiffon and lace, some cinched with corset belts to create an ultra-slim waistline. Cream, gold, lavender, silvery gray, and coral made up the palette, and lace, sheer panels, and underwire details added a lingerie touch. Louis Vuitton turned the runway into a carousel for spring 2012! Creative director Marc Jacobs sent out pastel organza dresses, laser-cut lace tops and skirts, crocodile motorcycle jackets and tweed suits. The accessories lineup included pointy heels with mirrored cap toes, as well as the label’s signature bags done up in see-through fabrics and basket weave leather.
