Runway Looks We Love: Gucci

Feb 22, 2012 @ 6:05 pm

Milan Fashion Week is happening right now, where Gucci’s creative director Frida Giannini presented a darkly glamorous collection for fall 2012. She filled the runway with cocktail dresses, pencil skirts, military jackets and evening gowns in rich textures like brocade, leather, feathers, and pops of rich velvet. Intricate beaded embroidery, stiletto booties, knee-high riding boots, ladylike bags, round glasses and blood-red lips rounded out the moody lineup. See our favorite looks in the gallery now.

Runway Looks We Love: Calvin Klein

Feb 17, 2012 @ 11:00 am

Calvin Klein’s signature chic minimalism reappeared for fall 2012, this time with artful details. (Case in point: Leather pleats that revealed sheer panels.) Creative director Francisco Costa used innovative fabrications in the collection, like embroidered laser-cut wool dresses and separates and knotted silk dresses with contoured bodices. Costa also carefully controlled color—quick hits of poppy, cerise, and sienna broke up a mostly black collection. Hammered silver belts and sleek black footwear accessorized each look. See our favorite new styles in the gallery.

Runway Looks We Love: Ralph Lauren

Feb 16, 2012 @ 6:30 pm

The editors who watch the Ralph Lauren show always erupt in cheers after the legendary designer presents his collection—but this season the applause came early when the soundtrack from crowd favorite Downton Abbey played over the speakers as the first look hit the runway. Some of the classicism of Downton applied to the collection, like menswear-tailored suits, head-to-toe black looks topped off with high hats and canes, and boyish separates in shades of camel, brown, and heather gray. Quickly, those styles gave way to an ultra-glamorous evening vibe fit for a royal with beaded embellishments, luxe velvets, and eye-catching jolts of fuchsia. Runway Looks We Love: Proenza Schouler

Feb 16, 2012 @ 6:00 pm

Proenza Schouler designers Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez created a downtown chic collection for fall with a strong Asian influence. They filled the runway with leather, from head-to-toe looks to skin blazers and motorcycle jackets to tough-chic trim on skirts and outerwear. And the pair offered plenty of after-hours options, too, like flirty mini-dresses in black and bright seafoam as well as bird-print cocktail dresses. The assortment of accessories—this is the label behind the ‘It’ bag PS 11 satchel, after all—included fur handbags and clutches as well as chunky heel boots in ankle and knee-high versions. See our favorite looks in the gallery!
