Louise Roe Tells InStyle All About Her Finale Fashion Star Outfit, Week 10

May 10, 2013 @ 5:35 pm

It’s the grand finale of Fashion Star tonight—I can’t believe the show has flown by so fast! I wanted a true show-stopper to go out with a bang, so I looked at the Falguni & Shane Peacock collection. This Indian-based designer shows at New York Fashion Week and always works with crazy shapes, silhouettes, and textures. I just had to try on this gown after seeing the awesome architectural detail on the neck and hips. On my feet, I went for super high, sparkly silver Jimmy Choo platforms, and a diamond cuff by Carolee. Gothic black nails, and a moody smoky eye—I was ready to rock our show’s most dramatic episode.

Louise Roe Tells InStyle All About Her Fashion Star Outfit, Week 9

I saw this Catherine Malandrino dress in the showroom and just had to try it on. It’s way more low-cut than I usually wear, but the zingy emerald green silk caught my eye and bright blocks of color often translate well on TV. I wanted to give my look an art deco edge in honor of spring’s Great Gatsby obsession, so my makeup artist Rachel Wood swept my hair to the side and found a gorgeous vintage Amber hair piece to pin on top. We worked the eye makeup around the amber tone with a dramatic bronze smoky eye. As for the shoes, I figured a gold sandal was the obvious choice to pair with such a classic dress silhouette, so I went for something a little more edgy—a pair of white, bejeweled Jimmy Choos with a thick ankle strap.

Louise Roe Tells InStyle All About Her Fashion Star Outfit, Week 8

The print on this Halston minidress is gorgeous. I was drawn to the mustard tones, which made me feel very 1970s glam. I went for a faux-bob with my hair, but a loose, wavy one to keep the look relaxed. I wore killer yellow metallic heels from one of my faves, Jimmy Choo, and then my absolute talisman, a ring designed by my friend Mesi Jilly. She has them all made in Italy and you can choose the stone—mine is Labradorite and it changes tone in different lights. This look was quite sophisticated and different from what I usually throw on, but I had fun wearing it!

Louise Roe Tells InStyle All About Her Fashion Star Outfit, Week 7

Apr 19, 2013 @ 5:30 pm

“This is probably my favorite look of the entire season. I went big hair, big earrings, big heels, and a crazy ’70s jumpsuit! Charlie’s Angels was definitely an inspiration this week, with a bright twist. The jumpsuit is by Paul & Joe, and I am obsessed with the color orange. Wearing it head-to-toe felt bold but scary, which is why I chose Jimmy Choo sandals to warm up the look. I wanted to add a splash of a another bold color, so I went for cobalt blue accessories. The earrings, ring, and bracelet are a mix of vintage, Kitson, and Saint Laurent. I told you last week that I like to mix up the high and low! Whatever works on the outfit is what I’ll pick. Labels definitely don’t matter.

Louise Roe Tells InStyle All About Her Fashion Star Outfit, Week 6

Apr 12, 2013 @ 2:30 pm

This dress is a true showstopper. It’s made by my friends [Connie Majoros and Fannie Chan] who run their own New York-based label, Femmes d’Armes. The first time I saw it on the hanger, my jaw dropped! I paired it with super cheap Zara studded heels that I’ve had in my closet for years, some plastic bracelets I got at the Valentino party last year, and a crazy ring from Topshop. I love to mix high and low. For the hair, we wanted to give it a messy boho vibe to balance out the glamorous feel of the dress, so for the first time ever, I tried a braid. At first we added a hair piece, but it made the braid so long and full it felt unnatural, so last minute right before I was due on stage, we whipped it out and threw together a new braid. I love how it turned out!

Louise Roe Tells InStyle All About Her Fashion Star Outfit, Week 5

Apr 5, 2013 @ 4:45 pm

This week on Fashion Star I wanted to switch things up and try a menswear-inspired look. This berry-colored suit is from Theory, and I love how the pant is cropped enough to show off the ankle straps on my cobalt Monika Chaing heels! The graphic print shirt underneath pulls out the purple and blue tones from the rest of my outfit; it’s from one of my favorite labels in the whole world, Tibi. Because the look is quite masculine, I kept my hair girly with soft curls, and because I wanted the vibe to be more evening—rather than business formal—I went for a smoky eye. I love this episode. The designers’ creations are super chic!

Louise Roe Tells InStyle All About Her Fashion Star Outfit, Week 4

Mar 29, 2013 @ 3:30 pm

Fashion Star got hot this week as the contestants had to create outfits for the summer, so I thought I’d reflect the mood in my look. This sunshine yellow dress is from Fendi, and I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it. I love the extended shoulders and A-line skirt; it totally made me want to dance. I went matchy-matchy with a canary yellow bracelet from Lulu Frost, and I’m loving white hot shoes at the moment, like this pair of pointy stilettos from London store Kurt Geiger. Finally, my makeup and hair stylist Rachel Wood figured we should go young and girly with the hair, so she pinned it up into a high ponytail and gave me nice bronzed cheekbones.

Louise Roe Tells InStyle All About Her Fashion Star Outfit, Week 3

Mar 22, 2013 @ 5:15 pm

I wanted to play with a more interesting silhouette with my clothes for the third episode of Fashion Star, but still have a hint of old Hollywood glamour. So, for hair and makeup, my one-woman-amazing-glam-squad Rachel Wood teased and pinned my hair into a voluminous side bun for a retro feel. For makeup, we kept clean and contoured on the cheeks, and added a thick black liquid liner inspired by Audrey Hepburn to my eyelid. My top was sparkly and cut low under the arm, which worked nicely tucked under the high-waist of my Lublu leather skirt. It was super-tight, I could barely breathe! But, I loved the hourglass effect the tulip skirt created. Finally, sky-high gold sandals by one of my favorite shoe designers ever, Brian Atwood, finished off the high-gloss look.
