If you’re planning to stock up on budget-friendly summer essentials, let your dollars work overtime at Kohl’s. The retailer just launched its new Candie’s for Kohl’s Cares collection, a lineup that features summer getaway must-haves like polka-dot flip-flips, tropical print totes, and pastel sunglasses, with nothing over $10. But here’s why we really like it: 100% of the net profit will be donated to the Kohl’s Cares initiative, which donates to American Cancer Society’s Midwest Division and the Southeast Wisconsin Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Head to kohls.com to start shopping the collection now.

May 5, 2013 @ 3:00 pm

Dee Ocleppo and husband Tommy Hilfiger are giving back this Mother’s Day with the launch of a collection of handbags Dee designed to benefit Autism Speaks, a leading science and advocacy organization dedicated to autism. “It’s a very important cause for me,” Dee told InStyle.com at the line’s launch at the Lamb’s Club in New York City this week. “Both Tommy and I have children that are on that spectrum, so this my way of showing more support.” The bags range from $20 to $110 and include totes, satchels, and clutches, each of which is reversible to maximize usability. Diane von Furstenberg Celebrates Women at the 4th Annual DVF Awards, Plus More Parties

Apr 8, 2013 @ 3:45 pm

Diane von Furstenberg made her first appearance since getting in an accident (she’s stylishly recovering in a DVF-print-covered sling) for the 4th Annual DVF Awards, held at the United Nations in New York City last Friday, where her presence radiated empowering messages. “I don’t think that you need the word powerful if you say woman,” designer told InStyle.com before honoring five women who have made it their life’s work to help other women and award $50,000 grants to their corresponding non-profits. This year she honored Vodianova, Robin Roberts, Andeisha Farid of the Afghan Child Education and Care Organization, Sunitha Krishnan of the anti-trafficking organization Prajwala, and Tammy Tibbetts, who received the People’s Voice Award for her education charity She’s the First. Von Furstenberg continued to emphasize the strength of women when she took the stage to address the crowd: “I have never met a woman who is not strong,” she said. “They don’t exist. Sometimes they’re not allowed to show their strength by a father, a brother, a religion, or sometimes they don’t even know that they’re strong, but then tragedy happens and miraculously the strength always comes out of a woman.” To learn more about the DVF Awards head to the dvfawards.com. Target Launch FEED BagsAmanda Schwab/Startraksphoto.com

Target’s Next Designer Collaboration Has a Charitable Touch, Thanks to Lauren Bush Lauren’s FEED USA Partnership

Mar 11, 2013 @ 1:34 pm

Target is known for its amazing designer collaborations—Missoni, Prabal Gurung, Gwen Stefani, to name a few—and now, it’s adding a charity element to its next big partnership: FEED USA + Target. The retailer teamed up with Lauren Bush Lauren’s FEED organization to create 50 limited-edition pieces set to hit shelves this June, including home goods, stationery, apparel, and accessories with prices ranging from $3 to $400. Most importantly, the Target line will incorporate the main element that made the FEED charity so popular: Each sale will directly feed children. Sales from the Target line will benefit Feeding America, a national hunger-relief charity, and even better, each product will features a number on it showing exactly how many meals it provides. “Through product sales, we hope to provide 10 million meals to Americans in need, which would make it the largest U.S. initiative in FEED’s history,” Lauren said in a statement. “I am proud that we will be able to empower guests to make a measurable impact through the purchase of the FEED USA + Target collection.” Support the cause by Tweeting the hashtag #FEEDUSA and by shopping the collection, in stores and on target.com starting June 30th.

Charlize Theron’s Pre-Oscars Preparation: “Start With the Heart” at TOMS Shoes

Feb 23, 2013 @ 11:07 am

How is Charlize Theron getting ready to present at Sunday’s Academy Awards? “This is how I’m getting ready, start with the heart,” the actress told InStyle.com during a private dinner at the recently-opened TOMS flagship store in Venice. During the height of Oscars weekend, together with TOMS Shoes founder Blake Mycoskie, the pair celebrated the launch of the third collaboration between the charitable shoe brand (for each pair bought, one is given to a child in need) and the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project (CTAOP), which focuses on keeping African youth safe from HIV/AIDS. “Blake, I’m not ever going to get married, but this is the closest I’m going to get to a marriage that actually works,” Theron joked. “Your team and your long-term commitment to us has been so amazing.” And their collaboration expanded: For the third go-around of the limited-edition footwear (in stores and toms.com next month), they created another women’s shoe, and a matching child pair, too—a natural evolution given that Theron’s son Jackson, loves to wear TOMS and the recently-married Mycoskie is planning to expand his family soon. “I think I have every style of TOMS that my son is wearing, yes, and he has these,” she said of the new style, which features the sun-inspired white and yellow CTAOP logo and the organization’s motto, Reach Out, Think Beyond, and Look Within scrawled inside. Theron credits her team for the design; for her, it’s all about the heart of the issue: “There is nothing that moves me as much as having these crates of shoes show up at schools in the middle of nowhere,” Theron said. “I invite anyone to come and try not to be emotional about it. It really is incredible.”

Exclusive: 160+ Fashion Designers Are Designing Custom Hearts for Donna Karan’s Charity

Feb 14, 2013 @ 4:42 pm

Here’s a lovely thought for Valentine’s Day: Designers have a new way to give back—and you can help, too! Today is the launch of Fashion for Haiti: One Million Hearts, an initiative in which over 160 designers in the Council for American Fashion Designers will decorate custom papier-mâché hearts with their signature flair. Each heart will then be auctioned off on eBay.com—from April 22 through May 2—to raise money for the Haitian Artisan Project within Donna Karan’s Urban Zen Foundation, which is dedicated to creating jobs and enhancing education of Haiti’s artisans. “Change can only occur when people come together,” Karan told InStyle.com exclusively. “I am excited to see so many of my friends and CFDA designers use these hearts as a blank canvas for their unique creative expression to raise money. Together, we believe in the brilliant artistry of a country filled with some of the most creative people I have ever met.” The designers involved—a list that includes CFDA President Diane Von FurstenbergTory Burch, and Oscar de la Renta—are currently working on their designs, building upon a heart that was designed by Haitian artist Magali Dresse (shown above). Stay tuned to see the designers’ heart interpretations when the charity auction launches on ebay.com April 22.
