BB Creams, CC Creams, DD Creams, and Foundation: Everything You Need to Know!

The latest skincare must-have has been brought to you by the letter “C!” In the fall, we reported that CC creams were starting to launch stateside, following in the footsteps of the pioneer BB creams before them. Now, Clinique is launching their own ultra-hydrating version, with many of our favorite beauty brands developing more. In terms of coverage, CC creams lie between the tinted moisturizer and BB end of the spectrum, with the BB creams delivering a more opaque finish. But that’s not all—in June, beauty brand Julep will continue the trend with the letter “D” when it launches its “dynamic-do-it-all” DD cream. Overwhelmed by the options? We put together a helpful guide on all of the products, and what makes each one different from the next—from primers, BB creams, CC creams, and every alphabetical variation in between. Click through our gallery to find out more.

What Really Happened During Kim Kardashian’s Vampire Facial

Mar 13, 2013 @ 10:52 am

Mom-to-be Kim Kardashian may chalk up her radiant complexion to her “pregnancy glow” these days, but we’re thinking the Vampire Facial she got in this week’s episode of Kim and Kourtney Take Miami also has something to do with it. The reality star brought this new treatment into the spotlight—the Instagram photo she posted after her visit to the Miami Institute for Age Management currently has over 131,000 likes—and it has us wondering if it’s more “eek” than “aah.”

“Vampire-related imagery may sound ghoulish, but the Vampire Facial only does good things for your skin,” said Tom O’Brien, the CEO of Eclipse Aesthetics, whose Eclipse MicroPen is used in the treatment. “We take a small amount of the patient’s blood, and once we process the blood, we give most of it back to help the patient improve skin quality.” The blood is spun in a centrifuge and combined into a platelet-rich plasma, then injected into the patient’s face. While you won’t get a sparkly Edward Cullen-esque effect, users can expect to have imperfections caused by aging and acne diminished, revealing a more youthful appearance.

So, are you convinced? Tell us if you’d try this new treatment by voting in the poll below.

How Do Tough Guys Cleanse Their Skin? We Asked Denver Broncos Football Star Von Miller

Mar 7, 2013 @ 10:40 am

This is something you don’t see every day—a football superstar getting a shave. Alas, that’s what we witnessed at the New York launch of Axe’s first men’s skin range, Axe FaceScore, where Denver Broncos linebacker Von Miller showed off his love for grooming by getting a shave in front of dozens of beauty editors. “I didn’t think I needed skincare,” he told InStyle.com before sitting down with the razor. “During the season, I’m pretty much a Viking! Taking care of my face allowed me to show my individuality, and you need extra hydration in a dry environment like Denver.” The range includes a shave gel, face wash, and post-shave gel in three formulas to suit sensitive, oily, and tired-looking complexions, all priced from $5 to $9. And, of course, they all include “that Axe smell”—the one your little brothers, cousins, and teen kids know so well. “I think guys will automatically gravitate toward Axe Face since a lot of us have been using the body sprays for years,” said Miller. “Plus, it may increase chances with the ladies just a little bit.” Aw, every “Viking” has a softer side—it’s all about the girl, and we’re taking notice.

The New Multitasker: Beauty Balm Cream

Jan 28, 2012 @ 10:00 am

Want to streamline your morning makeup routine? Pick up a Beauty Balm! Sometimes called BB Creams, the foundation-primer-moisturizer hybrids have been popular in Asia for years, and American retailers are finally catching on. Thanks to the anti-aging and anti-acne ingredients woven into the formulas, the more you wear them, the better your skin looks. We love MAC’s Prep + Prime Beauty Balm ($30; maccosmetics.com) and Garnier’s Skin Renew Miracle Skin Perfector ($13; garnierusa.com), both of which impart flawless finishes plus long-term skin benefits in just one swipe.
