Editor-Tested: Fusion Beauty’s Lash Serum Actually Gave Us Fuller Lashes

Apr 3, 2013 @ 8:00 am

With all the lengthening and conditioning products on the market, we asked InStyle.com Assistant Beauty Editor Marianne Mychaskiw to take Fusion Beauty’s lash serum on a road test and report back with the results. Read on to see how the product fared.

MARIANNE’S TAKE ON LASH SERUM: “Say what you will about Kim, Kourtney, and Khloe, but the Kardashian sisters never fail to give me lash envy. The trio made me realize I needed to step up my own lash game, but falsies and extensions intimidated me. Enter Fusion Beauty’s StimulashFusion Intensive Conditioning Treatment ($89; fusionbeauty.com). The product claimed full growth in six weeks, but after only two weeks of applying it nightly, my eyelashes were so long that not only did I have to buy a new lash curler to fit them, people also asked me if they were real. And if you’ve ever over-tweezed your brows, there is hope—the serum took my arches from a weird shape to a fuller, more presentable state. Now, I’ll apply the product every two days to keep new lash growth in check, and I’ll forever sing its praises if someone asks which mascara I’m using.”

Bridal Fashion Week: Marchesa’s Makeup Look

Oct 15, 2012 @ 2:09 pm

Beyond the beautiful white gowns and veils, we’ve spotted some fresh looks from the runway at Bridal Fashion Week. At the Marchesa 2013 bridal show, Laura Mercier makeup artist Talia Shobrook created a sophisticated yet glamorous face with bronzed-taupe statement lids and nude lips. To illuminate eyes,  she first applied a liquid taupe shadow upward toward the brow bone for an even, beige base. Then, she used a soft eye shadow brush and layered Laura Mercier Matte Eye Colour in Cafe au Lait ($22, lauramercier.com) across the lid and under the lower lash line for a soft outline. To add a sweet shimmer, she used a Laura Mercier Baked Eye Colour in Ballet Pink ($22, lauramercier.com) on the inner corners of the eye and across the top lash line, just barely extending the shadow over the outer corner. To finish the look, Shobrook used a lengthening mascara in dark brown to create voluminous lashes. Now this is a look we can say “I do” for!

Found It! What Jordana Brewster Uses for Her Perfect Brows

Aug 21, 2012 @ 1:40 pm

When it comes to flawless brows, Jordana Brewster sets the bar high! That’s why we had to find out how she keeps her arches looking perfect. “I use gel on my brows,” the Dallas star told InStyle.com this summer. “Tweezerman has a great brow gel that keeps everything in place.” Tweezerman’s Browmousse Gel—the lesser known product in the company’s lineup of fanciful, patterned tweezers—comes in a clear, budge-proof formula that works on all brow hues. In addition to gel, use the bristle brush to comb and set your arches, sweeping the wand in the same direction your hair grows for a natural effect. Pick up a tube for yourself for $10 at tweezerman.com, and click through the gallery for more tips for getting perfect brows.

Zoe Saldana Dishes on Her Beauty Routine

Sep 3, 2010 @ 9:17 am

Zoe Saldana is known as a fashion risk-taker, and when it comes to beauty, the Avatar star is equally “willing to try new things,” she told us. “One time, I colored the ends of my hair with rum. It turned them flaming red, and my mom had to cut them off. I smelled like liquor for weeks!” But now the Avon spokeswoman knows better. “Work with what you have and learn to be comfortable in your own skin,” she said. Click through our gallery to find out her must-have beauty products, and for more of our exclusive interview with Saldana, check out InStyle‘s September issue, on sale now!

How Do I Fake Full Brows? Facebook Fan Q&A

Apr 2, 2010 @ 10:18 am

Marista Reyes asked: “I want to change the style of my eyebrows…I want the glamour look! Is there a product that could help me?”

The good news is that bigger, bushier, Brooke Shields-inspired brows are totally in—and enhancing your brows is much more risk-free than tweezing. To play with the dramatic look, pick up a brow powder or a matte eye shadow in a shade darker than your natural brows. Swab on with a soft brush to fill and shape your brow, then run a clean mascara wand through to distribute the powder evenly. (It makes the entire look realistic—trust us!) Be sure to follow your natural arch, and as a rule of thumb, only fill below, not above, your brow. If you’re really serious about revamping your look, consider investing in a brow kit like the Christi Harris Precision Brow Planing System ($39.95,  christiharrisbrows.com), which has a variety of specialized powders and brushes, plus a fibrous cream that helps thicken sparse brows. And keep the questions coming at facebook.com/InStyle.
