Now that Ruffian Red is an established go-to crimson lip color, designers Brian Wolk and Claude Morais are expanding to nails. They’ve collaborated with MAC to develop a collection of super-chic press-ons in varying takes on the signature Ruffian half-moon manicure. “Every season Claude and I start with the manicure idea and it really forms the collection,” Wolk told InStyle.com exclusively. “Ruffian is always about a story, about a movie, about a film. It’s cinematic.” The kits of 24 press-on nails are self-adhesive and will be available for a limited time on maccosmetics.com starting on June 18th. “There is something so Ruffian about the ephemeral, that it will last just for a moment,” said Wolk. Last night, Emily Maynard handed out her first 25 roses on The Bachelorette in a $6,300 sequin-covered Jean Fares Couture gown, and we talked to the 26-year-old single mom about how she chose her first look. “Anyone who knows me knows how excited I get over any kind of sparkles or sequins, so the day I showed up at stylist Cary Fetman’s house, I thought I had died and gone to heaven!“ Maynard told InStyle.com exclusively. “He had racks and racks of some of the most amazing dresses I have ever seen. We tried on clothes for hours, and I absolutely love the Jean Fares Couture dress I wore on the first night.” The one shoulder blush chiffon gown featured an ombre design of silver, pink, rust and rose sequins. After Katy Perry tweeted a picture of her pastel French manicure with 3D roses last week, we caught up with her manicurist Kimmie Kyees to find out why. Turns out, the botanical talons will be featured in an upcoming project. “I went into my kit and I found these flowers I bought years ago,” Kyees said of the design. “I never knew what to do with them because they were a bit large, but then it hit me—tear them apart and use the pieces!” Kyees made examples for Perry, and the nails were a hit on the set. “She loved them so much, she tweeted them, and we packaged them up for the label in case they want to give them away or auction them off in the future.” Either way, we hope these innovative designs make a reappearance sometime soon.
