The Tribeca Film Festival kicked off this week in New York City! The festival, which was founded by Jane Rosenthal, Robert De Niro and Craig Hatkoff in 2002, celebrates the vibrant filmmaking world in New York City, which is why stars are gravitating to southern Manhattan to enjoy the 11 days worth of festivities. Film festival judge Eva Longoria and Mr. Mayhem Dean Winters lunched at the Tribeca Grill Loft for the Juror Welcome event, Zac Posen celebrated the 24-karat gold couture gown he made for Magnum Ice Cream’s short film As Good as Gold with Andrea Riseborough, and Olivia Wilde (in A.L.C.) and Karolina Kurkova (in Blumarine) attended the For the Love of Cinema Filmmaker’s dinner hosted by Swiss watch company IWC Schaffhausen at Donna Karan’s Urban Zen store. 2012 Democratic National Convention: Eva, Scarlett, and Kerry Rock the Vote!

Sep 7, 2012 @ 10:44 am

Not everyone was at the VMAs last night: Kerry Washington, Scarlett Johansson, and Eva Longoria spoke last night prior to Barack Obama‘s big moment at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, NC! How does a red-carpet regular dress for a political soiree? Washington wore a Bird dress and Roger Vivier’s Belle de Nuit pumps. Johansson dressed it down a little bit, opting for a patriotic American flag T-shirt, and Stella McCartney maroon slacks and blazer, while Longoria went for traditional democratic blue, with a gorgeous Victoria Beckham dress and Christian Louboutin heels. Tell us in the comments, which celebrity endorsement was your fave?

But if you caught any of the DNC’s speeches, you’ll know that the stand-outs were Michelle and Barack. If you’re a fan, try on their hairstyles below and post them to your Facebook wall to show your support:

Celebrities love Cushnie et Ochs! The Parsons-trained design team of Carly Cushnie and Michelle Ochs launched their sexy, body-con line after graduating in 2008, and quickly became industry darlings, winning the Ecco Domani Fashion Fund Award and becoming a finalist for the Council of Fashion Designers of America’s Fashion Fund Award. It’s no surprise then how the pair’s structured, lightweight creations have wooed stylish stars, including Olivia WildeKerry WashingtonEva Longoria, First Lady Michelle Obama, and Malin Akerman, who stood out in a vivid red design at the InStyle Summer Soiree last week. “I’ve kind of fallen in love with Cushnie et Ochs lately,” Akerman told InStyle.com. “All their stuff is just really cool and sleek. I’m obsessed!” And the designers are thrilled: “Seeing stars in our clothes is amazing,” they told InStyle.com, noting that empowering women is their ultimate goal. “Yes, [our clothes] are sexy and body con, but as female designers we construct our clothes to really support women and allow them to feel confident and comfortable when wearing them.” Click through the gallery to see more celebrities who love Cushnie et Ochs, and then shop for your own pieces at shopbop.com and ssense.com.

Eva Longoria’s #1 Tip for Dressing for Petites

Aug 6, 2012 @ 12:00 pm

Eva Longoria’s tiny frame stands five-foot-two, and with such petite proportions, she’s had to figure out how to flatter her shape. Her secret? “Tailoring!” she told us at the Lay’s “Do Us a Flavor” campaign launch recently. “If you’re a small person you have to alter everything.” Therefore, she nips, tucks, cuts, and shortens every piece in her closet, including T-shirts, jeans, dresses (like the one she wore this to the Obama for America Women’s Summit in Miami weekend, above right), and more. You name it, she’s altered it. “I focus proportions,” she said. “I take in the waist on everything.” And she suggests you do, too. “Usually tailors understand and appreciate it,” she said. “They see it and say, ‘This needs to come off!’” See our favorite Eva looks (and most successfully-altered) in the gallery!
