Mar 26, 2013 @ 7:30 am

When Claire Danes attended the 2012 Emmy Awards last September, she chose a chartreuse Lanvin column loose enough to fit her baby bump for the occasion. And now, 7 months and one Danes-Dancy baby later, that dress is now available to shop! The techno satin stunner with the gathered waist and floor-sweeping hem was Danes’ choice because “it didn’t need any tweaking,” she said, which makes it sound extra cozy. Leslie Mann’s Fashion Advice for Judd Apatow: “Stop Wearing the Same Shirt from 17 Years Ago!”

Oct 23, 2012 @ 2:36 pm

Knocked Up director, Girls executive producer, and all-around comedic genius Judd Apatow dominated last night’s Hollywood Film Awards in Los Angeles with his quick-witted quips, scribbling down zingers and one-liners on a program before taking the stage to accept the Hollywood Comedy Award. He proved his worth by roasting a number of famous faces in the crowd (most material is not suitable for print!), all while donning a sleek suit by Ermenegildo Zegna. He talked to InStyle.com about his big screen reunion with hilarious actress/wife Leslie Mann in the upcoming film This is 40, due out December 21. “We always have fun together because when we make movies it’s the only time I’m allowed to truly tell her what to do,” Apatow told InStyle.com. “And that only works a quarter of the time on the set.” And when it comes to his clothing? “She’ll say to me, ‘Judd, please! Stop wearing that same shirt from when I met you 17 years ago!‘” he told us. “That’s her main fashion advice.” Whatever the couple’s style strategy, it’s working—they looked fabulous on the Emmys red carpet (above), where Mann chose a vivid yellow Naeem Khan gown!

Tom Hanks Is Growing Out His Mustache to Play Walt Disney

Oct 9, 2012 @ 10:35 am

After debuting an epic ‘stache at the Emmys in September, actor Tom Hanks got a lot of attention for his newly styled facial hair. And InStyle.com got the scoop on it! “I am playing Walt Disney in a movie,” Hanks explained to us at this weekend’s Hammer Museum’s 10th Annual Gala in Los Angeles. (He was referring to Saving Mr. Banks, the story behind Disney’s production of Mary Poppins.) “It is more like a piece of engineering than facial hair,” he joked. “Much like Disneyland, my mustache will never be completed. [My wife] Rita ignores it with aplomb.” Said wife, Rita Wilson, added her own thoughts on the lip duster: “I have been through many, many phases of facial hair with my husband,” she told InStyle.com. “Let me say that this one is the least offensive. If you don’t believe me, go back and look at the Castaway beard.

Kelly Osbourne’s $250,000 Manicure

Sep 26, 2012 @ 1:47 pm

While there may have been some stunning jewelry on the 2012 Emmys red carpet, it was Kelly Osbourne’s 267-carat black diamond-adorned nails that really caught our attention! Bringing a whole new meaning to the phrase “dripping in diamonds,”  the E! Fashion Police host stepped out with a cool quarter-million dollar manicure from L.A.-based high-end jeweler Azature. “The black diamond is the ultimate fine jewel. Its combination of beauty, mystery, and sophistication makes it a timeless luxury,” Azature told InStyle.com. “One day I thought, why not showcase this style on nails? So I developed a black diamond-infused nail polish with the same attention and quality as my jewelry.” With the launch of the lacquer, the jeweler translates his love for the world’s finest gems into a beauty must-have. However, if the limited-edition $250,000 bottle is out of your price range, you can snap up a $25 version of the world’s most expensive nail polish (at azature.com) to achieve the black diamond digits.

Emmys Exclusive: Jason Wu’s Sketch for Mad Men’s Jessica Pare!

Sep 25, 2012 @ 6:00 pm

Jason Wu only dressed one person for this year’s Emmy Awards, and he picked Mad Men’s Jessica Pare! “She is definitely a muse,” he told InStyle.com exclusively. “My jaw dropped when I saw her. Together with her dark hair and a statement red lip, she looked like she jumped out of a beautiful René Gruau drawing! I couldn’t be happier with how she looked—people really took notice.” (Including us!) And the back story of how this look came to be is a fashion fairy tale come true: After being introduced by her stylist Cristina Ehrlich to create a look for the CFDA Fashion Awards in June, Pare and Wu quickly became friends. That’s why it was no question who she’d wear on Emmys night. “He sent me a few sketches and then he made a few dresses for me,” Pare told us of the process before the big event. (See the winning sketch of the white silk jersey and leather bustier at right!) “I went to New York to try them on, and I thought, ‘I can’t believe this is my life.’ It was a difficult decision, but I’m happy it worked out. Especially working with someone like Jason, I would never say no.” And women everywhere can take away a lot from a look like this—think bridal inspiration and beyond: “Women can learn that to have maximum effect at a big occasion doesn’t necessary mean having to wear a loud and overly embellished dress,” said Wu. “Sometimes less is more.” That’s a lesson to be remembered!

Emmys night isn’t the only time when the stars party! The weekend is full of fetes toasting to the small-screen, with HBO, Entertainment Weekly, Variety, and the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences among those hosting events. “It takes a village,” Julia Louis-Dreyfus (in Tadashi Shoji) told InStyle.com of getting ready for the marathon weekend. “I’m ill-equipped for it!” She was joking, of course, because she capped off her 72-hour whirlwind by walking away with the Best Actress in a Comedy award for her role in HBO’s Veep. Click through to see more of the biggest names to grace the Emmys bashes—including The Mindy Project’s Mindy Kaling, New Girl’s Zooey Deschanel, Downton Abbey’s Michelle Dockery, Mad Men’s Elisabeth Moss, and Parks and Recreation’s Amy Poehler!

Emmys 2012 Makeup Trend: Severe Eyes

Sep 24, 2012 @ 12:11 pm

Severe eye makeup took center stage at the 64th Annual Emmy Awards. Actresses including January Jones, Ginnifer Goodwin, and Lena Dunham all turned heads with bold, accentuated lids, keeping the rest of their makeup relatively understated so their peepers would pop. Want to add extra oomph to your eyes? The key is to start with a moisturizing primer to guarantee a no-smudge finish.  Take notes from Jones’s makeup artist, Rachel Goodwin, who looked to create a couture yet seductive winged lid. “I wanted her whole look to have a dramatic high fashion feel to it,” she said. “Not passive but of real intentional glamour.” Mission accomplished! To achieve the intense smoked lids, Goodwin blended Chanel’s D’Ombre Long Wear Luminous Eyeshadow in Apparition (visit chanel.com for store locations) onto January’s lash line and extended outward for a statement sweep. Goodwin then rimmed the top and bottom of the Mad Men star’s eyes with charcoal eyeliner and blended with a soft tapered brush for a smoky kohl finish. Looking for an even more dramatic eye? Once Upon a Time actress Ginnifer Goodwin’s makeup artist, Mai Quynh, suggests outlining the top crease and lash with a liquid liner. Then, using a stiff eyeliner brush, wing a thick line to the end of your brows to create a bold Twiggy-inspired cat eye.
