The season finale of Revenge had us on the edges of our seats, and we’re still talking about the tragic loss and shocking reveal from last night’s episode. So, who better to give us the inside scoop on the show’s other character—the clothes, the fabulous clothes!—than costume designer Jill Ohanneson? ”I’m a character-based designer, and I also love fashion, so I have to serve the character and what they’re going through first,” Ohanneson told InStyle.com. Her work this season had to stay in line with the dynamic changes experienced by each character, and therefore, she had to alter the wardrobes of Emily Van Camp, Ashley Madekwe, and others to reflect shocking new plotline twists. “In season one, we were trying to find what worked and what defined each character, and we kept it very colorful and bright, but then the show got very dark and dramatic.” In honor of last night’s season finale, click the photo to take a look at how Emily, Ashley, Nolan, and many more have switched up their style.
Talk about bittersweet: While we’re sad to see another season of Revenge come to an end tonight, we can’t wait to see what happens with Emily (Emily Van Camp) and Daniel’s on-again, off-again engagement, not to mention the plot twists and chic sartorial choices that are sure to come. “It gets a little dark! Some hard and sad things happen,” the show’s costume designer Jill Ohanneson hinted. “A lot of what Emily had to do was very function-oriented, she has a lot going on, so expect her to look a little more casual this time.” Sounds like big things are in store for Emily—as well as Victoria (Madeline Stowe), who somehow manages to keep her outfits looking fantastic, even throughout all the drama. “Madeline has some beautiful outfits that are emotionally interesting for what’s going on in the scene,” she added. Intrigued? Watch the Revenge season finale tonight at 9 p.m. EST on ABC to find out what happens.

Smoky eyes don’t always have to be layered with deep kohl or pewter. Case in point: Emily VanCamp‘s subtle but sultry honey lids. We got the inside scoop from celebrity makeup artist Rosie Johnston, who created the fresh, understated look for the Revenge star’s appearance at the recent Environmental Media Awards. “Emily’s dress was such a bold color,” Johnston told InStyle.com, “we wanted to keep it simple.” She began by prepping skin with oil-free tinted moisturizer and spot concealer. “Just enough coverage, so the skin look clean and keeps a natural dewiness,” she said. To highlight the contours of VanCamp’s face, Johnston used Giorigio Armani’s Blushing Fabric in Carmel ($39, saksfifthavenue.com) on her cheeks and jawline. But it’s those smoky lids that have us ooh-ing and ah-ing. Johnston’s secret? “I used the same liquid bronzer on her eye lids as I did for her cheeks,” she told us, adding that she blended the bronzer with MAC eyeshadow in Texture ($15, mac.com) up toward the brow bone and outer corners of the eyes. Johnston also suggested lining a light layer of shadow under the lower lash line to make eyes really pop. To finish off the look, she filled in the brows with Talika Eyebrow Extender in Dark Brown ($35, talika.com). “You can’t forget the brows!” Johnston exclaims. “They’re so important to the look.” Love celebrity beauty tips? While we anxiously await the Season 2 premiere of Revenge, we got a glimpse of the gorgeous Emily VanCamp at the 2012 Emmys. Her makeup artist, Rosie Johnston, told us: “Emily is wearing a beautiful, 1920s art-deco, pale gray dress [by J. Mendel] and it’s very ethereal, beautiful, and youthful. So we went for a very classic look—nothing that would take away from the dress.” Her face was clean with a hint of shimmer, but the standout were her lush lashes. The secret? Talika’s Heated Eyelash Curler ($37 at Nordstrom or Dermstore).“It was freaking awesome! It’s amazing and it actually makes the curl stay! I love it,” Johnston told us. Secret’s out!

Revenge star Emily VanCamp hit the Vanity Fair Oscar after-party this weekend with a summery glow, and we just had to find out how she got her complexion so bright. “Emily was going for a very feminine look, and I wanted to reflect that with her youthful makeup and tanned skin,” her makeup artist Rosie Johnston told InStyle.com exclusively. To achieve the bronzed look, Johnston mixed Giorgio Armani’s Fluid Sheer in #3 ($59 at giorgioarmanibeauty-usa.com) with foundation, then finished the look with a sweep of Bare Escentuals Warmth ($19 at bareescentuals.com), a matte powder bronzer. ”I wanted to create a natural, healthy-looking glow—not a blinged-out finish,” she said. Great tips for the pre-spring season! Catch a new episode of Revenge tonight at 10/9c on ABC.
