That’s a wrap! The 86th annual Academy Awards have finally concluded, marking the end to a very exciting and surprising awards season (which featured unforgettable moments from Jared Leto‘s comeback in Dallas Buyers Club, to Lupita Nyong’o‘s breakout role in 12 Years a Slave). In case you missed the almost 4-hour long Ellen DeGeneres-hosted Oscars ceremony, scroll down to see our six favorite moments!
Before stepping out on the red carpet for Hollywood’s biggest event of the year, celebrities sit for hours in the hair and makeup chair. But even before the big night, they’re getting primped and preened with high-tech facials and old-fashioned root touch-ups. Tracey Cunningham’s Beverly Hills salon, Meche is a must for a roster of stars with the most-wanted hair in Hollywood from Gwyneth Paltrow to Jennifer Garner. Meanwhile, Oscar host Ellen DeGeneres will be dropping by her trusted skincare guru Mila Moursi’s Beverly Hills Skin Care Institute for The Mila Moursi Global Anti-Age Treatment. Moursi says, “It’s the ultimate skin rejuvenation to naturally contour and tighten the skin, stimulate new cell production, increase blood circulation, and create healthy glowing skin.” These beauty all-stars are so indispensable they even make house calls! Anastasia stopped by Julia Roberts‘ house last night for an eyebrow prep. Click through the gallery to see other destinations on the road to the red carpet.
Not everyone will go home with an Oscar at the Academy Awards on March 2nd, but this year’s losing nominees are all guaranteed to walk away with a jammed-packed gift bag. The ”Everybody Wins at the Oscars” gift bag is awarded annually by Distinctive Assets and is chock full of goodies worth over $80,000—which is sure to somewhat console those who don’t take home a gold statuette. Filled with products like Chocolatines savory wine-infused chocolate, Swiss-made Slow Watches, Acure Organics skincare, a Steamist Total Sense Home Space System, and a trip on the luxurious Rocky Mountaineer train, the gift bag is fusion of fun and functional items. In the spirit of gifts that give back, the package also includes a 10,000 meal donation from freekibble.com of Ellen DeGeneres‘ natural pet food, Halo Spot’s Stew, will be given to the shelter of the celebrity’s choice. Sounds like a winner to us! Remember to tune in to the Oscars, which will air on ABC Sunday, March 2nd at 7PM EST/4PM PST, and check InStyle.com as the night goes on for all the up-to-the-moment red carpet updates!

Ellen DeGeneres is set to host the 86th Annual Academy Awards! “It’s official: I’m hosting the #Oscars! I’d like to thank @TheAcademy, my wife Portia and, oh dear, there goes the orchestra,” she wrote, breaking the news on Twitter early Friday. The talk show host, who emceed once before in 2007, is among an elite group of female comedians who have had the honor to host the event, including Jane Fonda, Goldie Hawn, and most recently Anne Hathaway. However, only she and Whoopi Goldberg have taken the stage without a male sidekick. With the great success of Tina Fey and Amy Poehler at this year’s Golden Globes, we’re thinking an all-ladies streak is in the future. We can’t wait to see what Ellen will come up with — a Sophia Grace and Rosie moment, perhaps? We’ll find out when the show airs live from The Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday, March 2, 2014.

After a six-year battle with cancer, makeup guru and honorary Cover Girl Talia Castellano passed away yesterday at the age of thirteen. Talia first caught our eye with her amazing YouTube beauty tutorials — namely the clip above, where she created a pro-quality smoky eye without even using a mirror. Her impeccable makeup skills were matched only by her inspiring attitude and sunny disposition, which never faltered despite her illness. The executives at CoverGirl also took note, and during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, DeGeneres and the brand named her an honorary Cover Girl. “We are honored to have known Talia and grateful for all the ways she showed us what true beauty means,” CoverGirl Vice President and General Manager Esi Eggleston Bracey said in a statement. “She inspired millions with her strength, personality and talent. Talia has touched our CoverGirl family forever, and we’re thankful to have been a part of her life.” You will be missed, Talia.

Gwyneth Paltrow, officially the world’s most beautiful woman, turned heads when she stepped onto the red carpet at the Iron Man 3 premiere this week in an Antonio Berardi dress with sheer vertical paneling along the sides exposing all her bits and pieces. Yesterday, she explained her controversial style choice on Ellen, where both she (in Proenza Schouler) and talk show host Ellen DeGeneres had giggle fits over Gwyneth’s admission that, because of the placement of the sheer fabric, she “kind of had a disaster.” No spoilers here—you’ll have to watch the clip above to find out just what nearly went wrong with Paltrow’s dress—but Gwyneth finishes the story by admitting, “I went from the most beautiful to the most humiliated in one day.” And this kind of look isn’t just for big movie stars anymore: Both Berardi’s original runway design (which is two-piece) and Paltrow’s full-length version will hit modaoperandi.com today at noon; the gown for $4,660 and the shorter skirt-top combo for $1,480 (skirt) and $1,580 (top). Watch the clip above and decide if Gwyneth’s risky style move is one you’d want to take.

Portia de Rossi helped celebrate wife Ellen DeGeneres in Australia last night, where Ellen attended a big welcome party thrown in her honor. The talk show host is visiting the land down under to film special segments of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, marking the first time her show has ever traveled outside of the U.S. Ellen is filming the show on a large sound stage near the Opera on the Harbour, surrounded by the beautiful Royal Botanic Gardens.
