With Lindsay Lohan’s debut as Elizabeth Taylor in Lifetime’s Liz & Dick last night, the TV movie about Taylor’s love affair with actor Richard Burton, it got us thinking about other actresses who played icons on screen. Jennifer Love Hewitt played Audrey Hepburn in the TV movie The Audrey Hepburn Story in 2000, while Michelle Williams channeled her inner Norma Jeane in My Week With Marilyn last year. Soon, Naomi Watts and Nicole Kidman will be adding regal titles to their resumes with Watts filming her role as Princess Diana in Caught in Flight and Kidman playing Grace Kelly in Grace of Monaco. So, with all of these actress-to-icon portrayals, we want to know—whose reenactment is most on-point? Cast your vote on InStyle’s Facebook page now!

Elizabeth Taylor’s Beautiful Brooch: Now Back at Tiffany’s

Feb 21, 2012 @ 3:00 pm

Elizabeth Taylor once owned a sculptural sapphire, diamond, platinum and gold Fleur de Mer brooch by Tiffany & Co. designer Jean Schlumberger, a piece the jewelry house bought back during the epic auction of Taylor’s estate in December. Now returned to Tiffany’s hands, the jeweler did something special for its first public presentation by entrusting celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe to show the brooch in her newly-unveiled window displays celebrating red carpet glamour at the Tiffany New York flagship. It’s quite fitting that the stylist extraordinaire should be the first to present the piece. Taylor herself loved styling the jewel, a 1965 gift from her husband Richard Burton. See just how Taylor did it by clicking through the gallery.

Elizabeth Taylor Jewelry Auction: The One-Week Wrap-Up

Dec 20, 2011 @ 5:00 pm

The video above screened one week ago at the beginning of the Elizabeth Taylor’s Legendary Jewels auction at Christie’s. Skip forward to 2:32 when the actress does some over-the-phone pool-side bidding at the 1987 auction of Duchess of Windsor’s jewelry. “Darling, it sounds like things that are really desirable are going to go for ten times what expected, right?” she asks. Taylor’s own words were the perfect way to start the series of sales where items went for 10, 20 or 50 times the estimates. Now that the legendary sale wrapped up, we pulled together all of the over-the-top figures that made this the most successful jewelry auction of all time—read them below.  More
