The team behind Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce is back! Mad Men made its much-awaited return to AMC last night with season six’s two-hour premiere, and today, we turned to the show’s costume designer Janie Bryant (shown inset) to get all the details on how she represented the storyline through the wardrobe. “It’s always the most important to stay true to the integrity of the characters,” Bryant said of her sixth season. “I keep in mind that some change with the times, like Megan with her floppy hat and Joan with her purple suit, and also, not everybody changes, like Don.” Click through the gallery to get more insider scoop and learn how she took the cast of characters from the shores of Hawaii to the streets of New York City.
Leading up to its April 7th return, our first glimpse into the world of Mad Men’s sixth season is here! Roger Sterling, Don Draper, Joan Holloway, and Pete Campbell are back, looking as dapper as ever in these new black-and-white promo shots. In a departure from the show’s past ads, which tended to be full color and more stark, the stars—John Slattery, Jon Hamm, Christina Hendricks, Vincent Kartheiser, and more—look to be living it up, dressed in their ’60s garb and clutching their favorite accessories: cocktails. Va-va-voom! For the 2013 SAG Awards, Mad Men star Elisabeth Moss shed her clean-cut Peggy Olsen image for a smoldering Parisian-inspired look. “I love working with Elisabeth because she always likes to try something new. I don’t think we’ve ever done the same beauty look twice!” makeup artist Jamie Greenberg told InStyle.com exclusively. “We wanted to keep the look down to Earth with a chic French street touch.” Using the eyes as the focal point, Greenberg complemented the look with a sheer pink lip and glowing skin from head to toe. InStyle.com got an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the Moss’s award show prep routine. Click through our gallery to go backstage with the star, and to shop the exact products she used!

Do blonds really have more fun? According to Elisabeth Moss, they do in the wardrobe department! We caught up with the star at the Alice + Olivia presentation at New York Fashion Week to get the details on her platinum pixie. “I had the same brunette color for two projects in a row, and I wanted to do something really different,” she told us. “What’s great about being blond is that you can wear any color—even darker colors. Blond hair is almost like an accessory in itself!” Between her edgy new color and Mad Men‘s 17 impressive Emmy nominations, we had to ask about the special ensemble she’ll wear to the Emmys in celebration. “I don’t have an Emmy dress color yet, but it’s opened up options,” Moss said. “It could be anything! Whereas, when you’re a brunette, you need a little bit more color.” We can’t wait to see what she picks!

In a dramatic departure from her retro coiff on Mad Men, Elisabeth Moss surprised us when she stepped out with a platinum pixie last week. We caught up with Tommy Buckett and Caroline Buckler of the Marie Robinson Salon, who worked together to give Peggy Olsen a brand new ‘do. Both stylists decided to go with an edgy style that really pushed the envelope since Moss wanted to go shorter. “I tweaked the color a bit to go with this cut,” Buckler said. “Elisabeth’s skin tone is perfect for this shade, which makes her eyes really pop.” Thinking of making the cut like Moss? Keep your hair texture in mind before heading to the salon. “This style works for girls with straight to wavy hair,” Buckett said. “The soft, flat bang gives it a modern look.” We agree!

Now this is what we call a blond ambition! Elisabeth Moss (in Dolce & Gabbana) unveiled a new platinum blond pixie at last night’s New York City premiere of For a Good Time, Call. The look is a dramatic change from the retro Mad Men coiffs she sports as Peggy Olsen, and is such a major change, it reminds us of Miley Cyrus and Ashlee Simpson‘s edgy cuts. But this isn’t her first time as a blond! The star, who is a natural brunette, added sunny highlights to her chin-skimming bob last year. Do you like how her new haircut? Tell us in the comments!
