Before Julia Roberts could set off to film Eat, Pray, Love, costume designer Michael Dennison had to take a journey of his own. “Fran Vega-Buck (Julia’s personal costumer since 1993′s The Pelican Brief) and I traveled to each of the locations—New York, Rome, India and Bali—to buy clothes and accessories before filming started,” Dennison told us. “And we did it in one week!” After the whirlwind trip, Dennison pulled together more than 100 costumes for the around-the-world shoot. “Each part of the story is associated with a season, but the calendar is backwards,” he explained. “We meet Julia’s character when she’s in an emotional winter, then she begins a journey that takes her through fall, summer and finally to spring, the season of rebirth and renewal. What she wears helps us to see how she’s changing and growing.” Click through our gallery for more photos of Roberts’s Eat, Pray, Love style and get a sneak peek at her sexy co-stars, Javier Bardem and James Franco!

If merely seeing the big-screen adaptation of Eat, Pray, Love isn’t enough for you, we’ve got good news: Thanks to Fresh, you’ll now be able to smell like author Elizabeth Gilbert’s journey through Italy, India, and Indonesia. On July 15, the beauty brand will release a trio of signature scents—available as eau de parfums and candles—inspired by the Julia Roberts film. “Eat” balances heavier scents like vanilla and caramel with notes of lemon and basil; “Pray” is an amalgam of woodsy and spicy fragrances such as jasmine, patchouli, and pink pepper; and “Love ” features bergamot, jasmine, and sandalwood. They’ll be available on Fresh.com, in plenty of time to perfume yourself for the movie’s August premiere.

Which Stylish Summer Movie Tops Your Must-See List?

Apr 23, 2010 @ 11:49 am

Summer is just around the corner, and we plan on getting some serious style inspiration from the season’s upcoming films. Sex and The City 2 (out May 27th) is number one on our list of must-watch wardrobes—Sarah Jessica Parker‘s playful, pleated Halston Heritage dress is just one of many colorful ensembles we’ve already spotted on the set. And we can’t wait for Kate Hudson and Jessica Alba’s retro dresses and red lips in the 1950s-set crime noir The Killer Inside Me (June 18th). Katherine Heigl will sport sleek sheaths as an assassin’s wife in Killers (June 4th), while Cameron Diaz will dodge secret agents in chic menswear suits (that inspired a collection for Brooks Brothers) in Knight & Day (June 25th). Finally, Julia Roberts will take us on her stylish journey around the world in Eat Pray Love (August 14th). Tell us: Which stylish summer movie are you most excited to watch?
