Runway Looks We Love: DKNY

Feb 11, 2013 @ 2:00 pm

Donna Karan’s fall DKNY collection, titled “Juxta-posed,” focused on statement-making contrast. Boxy coats topped slim trousers, tough leather trimmed soft quilted cotton, and cropped sweatshirts layered flowing maxi dresses. Like the shapes, the colorblock was hi-contrast and created sexy curves on dresses and outerwear. For accessories, the designer also punctuated the designs with oversize foldover animal print clutches, color-drenched satchels, and asymmetrical pumps. See our favorite looks in the gallery!

Donna Karan on the DKNY ’90s Styles: “They’re Just as Fresh Today as They Were”

Feb 1, 2013 @ 12:51 pm

DKNY’s ’90s styles are back in stores today! Reissues of the brand’s iconic NYC-screened tees, bodysuits, and dresses are back and available at openingceremony.us, so when we saw Donna Karan at last night’s New York premiere of Side Effects, the designer told InStyle.com how she really feels about the decade. “If the ’90s are making a comeback, God bless it, maybe I’ll have a good collection this season!” the designer told InStyle.com with a giggle. “To me, [those designs] are as fresh today as they were then. And that’s the beauty of what I try to do—clothes that are timeless, seasonless, effortless, iconic.” And no need to overthink your wardrobe choices: “I think sometimes fashion gets too caught up with itself. It’s just great clothes that you want to wear.”

The nineties are making a serious resurgence these days—members of generation Y can rejoice at the return of brands like Herbal Essences, Jane Cosmetics, and, now, DKNY. The brand is reissuing 15 of its archival runway styles from the 1991-1994 era through Opening Ceremony, including logo hoodies, NYC-skyline tees, maxi dresses, and the ultimate 90s look: the bodysuit. “DKNY was a pioneer of streetwear fashion in the 90s,” Opening Ceremony co-founder Carol Lim said in a statement. “We have been longtime fans of the brand and were very excited to bring back select, quintessential styles that feel fresh even today.” The collection, which hits shelves and openingceremony.us on February 1, ranges between $145 and $665.

Runway Looks We Love: DKNY

Sep 9, 2012 @ 7:14 pm

The city is just as much a part of DKNY as Donna Karan, which is why Reflections of New York was a fitting title for the label’s spring show. Filled with “ready for everything” pieces, the collection ranged from casually cool weekend-ready denim to sleek gowns perfect for the red carpet. Constructed from streetwise fabrics like neoprene, mesh and leather, these styles would definitely stand out on the busiest of Manhattan streets (particularly those bright yellow pieces, like the head-turning finale dress) while utilitarian accessories, including fanny packs (yes, fanny packs!) and buckled boots, would keep the DKNY girl on the go. See our favorite looks in the gallery!
