Tracy Reese Is Designing an Anthropologie Home Line

Feb 11, 2013 @ 3:30 pm

New York designer Tracy Reese (much loved by stars like 90210′s Shenae Grimes) is doing another collaboration with Anthropologie! Following her limited-edition release of the dress inspired by Michelle Obama’s Democratic National Convention look, the designer is working on something new for the retailer—a home collection. “We are launching Plenty Home, which should debut in about a month,” Reese told InStyle.com prior to her runway show during New York Fashion Week. “It was really fun to work on. We had a home license that ended a couple years ago, and I’ve just been dying to kind of get back into it. It’s something that I really love to do.” Keep your eyes peeled for the line’s March release.

Michelle Obama’s Tracy Reese Dress Left Designer “A Little Mystified”

Oct 17, 2012 @ 1:07 pm

Michelle Obama knows how to wow a crowdjust look at her hot pink Michael Kors look from last night’s presidential debate. Though, the level in which people pay attention to her choices remains surprising to even those who dress her, including Tracy Reese, who created the red and silver dress the First Lady wore to speak at the Democratic National Convention. “I’m a little mystified,” she told us at the American Theater Ballet’s opening night gala in New York City last night. “I’m flattered. It’s interesting how much conversation got generated about her dress and nails, but for me, the night was all about her speech.” Yet, she knows the power of a good dress—the style will go on sale soon (it was rushed into production) and there is already a look inspired by Obama’s style in Reese’s collection for Anthropologie (shop it for $298 at anthropologie.com). ‘Tis election season!

Tracy Reese’s Michelle Obama-Inspired Anthropologie Dress

You’ll see something a little familiar in Tracy Reese’s new collection for her Made in Kind collaboration at Anthropologie—a dress inspired by the look she custom created for Michelle Obama’s first speech at the Democratic National Convention in September. “This is actually the same dress Mrs. Obama wore to the Democratic National Convention, in a new different version,” Reese told InStyle.com at a party celebrating the new lineup in New York City this week. “She wore the sleeveless version in a different fabric,” Reese added. “I wanted to make it as rich as possible, so we printed it on this wonderful silk and linen jacquard so it just gives some texture to it, and topped it off with something abstract printed on lace.” The Floral Combo dress will land in stores and anthropologie.com for $298 starting Tuesday, October 9th.

Lauren Conrad has been one busy lady! The brain behind Paper Crown clothes and The Beauty Department has been spotted at four New York Fashion Week shows already—(from left to right) Tracy Reese, Lela Rose, Rebecca Minkoff, and Kate Spade. And it’s only the fourth day of New York Fashion Week! “I’m really excited about all of the shows I’ve seen!” Conrad told us front row at Tracy Reese this afternoon. And it’s impossible for her to pick a favorite: “Tracy does a really great job with prints and colors. There were so many beautiful dresses at Lela—I’m a big fan always. Rebecca’s a friend, I’m always watching her stuff. And things are getting so fun at Kate Spade, there’s such a sense of humor.” Sounds like the former Hills star has seen the best of the best this week! We can’t wait to see where she goes next—or what she’ll wear.

Tracy Reese Talks Michelle Obama and That Dress

Sep 9, 2012 @ 6:16 pm

Needless to say, the Mrs. Obama was the topic of conversation at today’s Tracy Reese show. “I think Michelle Obama is a very inspiring woman and the opportunity to dress her has always been an honor for us,” the designer told InStyle.com. “She is the essence of women I already understand, she expresses herself—she’s not dictated to by fashion or even her situation. She’s really been a modern First Lady in that she makes her own choices.” For the now-iconic DNC dress, Reese updated a Spring 2012 design with a fresh color scheme. “The colors were amazing,” said Reese, “But it ended up being what she brought to the dress—it was the right time, the right moment, the right place, definitely the right woman and the right speech.” And—good news for the rest of us!—the designer is rushing replicas of the dress into production.

Michelle Obama’s Convention Speech Dress: Where and When To Buy It

Sep 6, 2012 @ 5:45 pm

When First Lady Michelle Obama hit the stage Monday night to give her first speech at the 2012 Democratic National Convention, the Internet lit up with compliments and applause over her dress. The pink-and-gold frock was a custom creation by Detriot-based designer Tracy Reese. Since then, people have been clamoring to get their hands on their own version of the dress. And soon they’ll be able to! “It was something that we are planning for later; we are trying to rush it through the cycle so more people can get their hands on it sooner,” Reese said on the Today show this morning. The price tag? Under $500, or “affordable for some,” as the designer put it. We’d love to get our hands on one! Tell us in the comments: Would you wear the First Lady’s dress?

Michelle Obama or Ann Romney: Which Convention Look Do You Like Most?

Sep 5, 2012 @ 10:55 am

It’s a political convention showdown—First Lady-style! So, which wife looked best? Both chose designer looks by American-based labels, starting with Ann Romney, who wore a belted A-line design by Oscar de la Renta in a bright cardinal red last week. Then, First Lady Michelle Obama wore a custom pink and gold Tracy Reese sleeveless dress and J.Crew pumps for her speech at the Democratic National Convention last night. This vote is simple: Whose look do you like better? Tell us in the poll!
