Exclusive: Selena Gomez’s Stylist on Her MTV Movie Awards Looks!

Apr 15, 2013 @ 3:15 pm

Selena Gomez went for a come-and-get-it look for last night’s MTV Movie Awards—an attitude that matched the name of her new single that she performed—and her stylist Basia Richard gave InStyle.com all the details on her two looks. For the red carpet, she went with a gold, embroidered Julien Macdonald mini, originally chosen as a performance contender. “Selena fell so in love with this dress that it was instantly her first choice for the carpet,” Richard told InStyle.com, noting that she kept the accessories simple with metallic peep-toe Jimmy Choo heels. For her Bollywood-inspired performance, Richard chose to add more sparkle and embellishment to a red Marco Marco design with Swarovski crystals and gold pieces—which, pssst, you’ll also seen in an upcoming video. “I made the skirt fuller, I wanted it very sensual, very tribal,” she said. As for our favorite detail, Selena’s sparkly bindi? “That was her makeup artist, Karan Mitchell’s idea,” Richards said. “We loved it so much everyone on the team was wearing a different color backstage!” Love it!

The Week in Parties: Zoe Kravitz and Mom Lisa Bonet Celebrate with Swarovski, and More!

Mar 22, 2013 @ 3:15 pm

Zoë Kravitz (in Alexander Wang) celebrated the launch of her limited-edition collaboration with Swarovski Crystallized last night on the roof of New York’s Gramercy Park Hotel. The 23-year-old actress was joined by mom Lisa Bonet, and the two partied ’til the early morning hours in celebration of the sparkling nine-piece jewelry line, which incorporates earthy elements in addition to Swarovski’s trademark crystals. Kravitz’s birthstones, turquoise and tanzanite, are featured prominently in the bracelets, earrings, rings, and necklaces, which were modeled by the two ladies at the event. Shop the collection in Swarovski stores in April.

Candice Swanepoel Models for Swarovski

Feb 5, 2013 @ 4:20 pm

Victoria’s Secret Angel Candice Swanepoel knows a thing or two about strong feminine sex appeal, and that’s just what she’s bringing to Swarovski’s latest ad campaign. Shot by fashion photographer Nick Knight (one of Gaga’s favorites), the images depict Swanepoel donning sleek-looking, crystallized active wear that include dumb bells, skiing goggles, and a helmet. “Nick catches her spirit perfectly,” Swarvoski executive Nadja Swarovski said in a statement. “Beautiful, healthy, and strong, she is in charge, and can compete in any way. She is also fun and kind of humorous.”

Skyfall Style: Severine’s Black Gown Features 60,000 Swarovski Crystals

Nov 8, 2012 @ 11:28 am

There’s always a sexy Bond girl in every James Bond movie, and when Skyfall, the 23rd film in the franchise, hits U.S. theaters tomorrow, you’ll meet the newest—Bérénice Marlohe, the seductive Parisian actress who plays Severine opposite Daniel Craig’s 007. Her come-hither look is worthy of staring on its own (Bond can prove that), but there’s something else to look out for while you watch the movie—a beautiful black gown with crystal tattoos stitched into it, a piece costume designer Jany Temime put together by hand (see an exclusive sketch, right). “Each Bond girl is iconic in her own way so I wanted to celebrate 007′s new leading lady, Severine, with an unforgettable dress,” Temime told InStyle.com. To do so, she used over 60,000 Swarovski Elements crystals, which were sewn onto the fine tulle and sheer fabric of the dress’ sleeves, neckline, back, and sides. “[The crystals] are the ultimate creative ingredients to capture one of the most significant scenes in the film,” said Temime. Meet Severine, see the dress, and get a new dose of Bond when Skyfall opens nationwide tomorrow (Friday, November 9).

Famed fashion photographer Mario Testino celebrated his first-ever U.S. museum show last night at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, where shoe designer Stuart Weitzman—Testino shot the footwear giant’s recent ad campaign—co-hosted (along with Swarovski) the likes of Gisele Bündchen, whose image is featured in the exhibit. “Mario’s work over the past three decades speaks for itself,” Weitzman told InStyle.com exclusively. “His photographs have the uncanny ability to transcend the page, and capture the true essence of fashion and glamour. [Testino's] advertising campaign for Stuart Weitzman has made a profound impact on the brand, and helped us to expand globally, seducing women around the world. We are incredibly honored to share in the celebration.” The two-part photo exhibition, dubbed In Your Face and British Royal Portraits, opens this Sunday (October 21) and runs through February 3 and June 16, respectively. On display are some of Testino’s most memorable shots, like Madonna‘s Ray of Light album cover, InStyle cover girl Gwyneth Paltrow dancing in a Paris hotel room, and, of course, numerous shots of our favorite royals, including Kate Middleton and Prince William. Visit mfa.org for more information on how you can see the iconic images.

Colin Cowie’s Pink Swarovski Chair for Breast Cancer Awareness: “It’s a Symbol of Glamorous Hope”

Oct 17, 2012 @ 2:59 pm

Party planner and wedding designer extraordinaire Colin Cowie came out to support small business entrepreneurs at Martha Stewart’s American Made Awards in New York, but he had a very big project of his own to talk about. In honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Cowie created a hot pink chair covered in crystals for Swarovski, and it’s currently being auctioned off on Charitybuzz.com to benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. “Breast cancer [awareness] is all about hope,” Cowie told InStyle.com. “And with hope comes the jewels and the gems of life—so we completely pavéd the inside in those trapezoid-shaped diamonds and stones. I think it’s a symbol of glamorous hope.” The luxury lounger is on the block—along with 19 other designer chairs that were designed as part of The Pink Projectthrough the end of October, with a starting bid of $750.
