If Reem Acra‘s fall 2014 bridal collection was summed up in one word, it’d be: transparency. Acutely aware of what brides are looking for, the designer drew inspiration from her travels to create something different, something more couture. “My global brides want something different, so I always have to come up with new ideas, like layering of other colors underneath for that feel of freshness, lightness, that see-through attitude, but not actually see-through,” she told InStyle.com. The designer began working on bridal roughly six months earlier (even before her ready-to-wear line) to ensure a level of ethereal perfection, which was achieved through layers of tulle, illusion panels and intricate embroidery. “Brides are reacting to transparency—everything was well thought of; nothing was done overnight. They look lightweight and simple, but they’re not. The dresses are more couture than ever; the feathers and the headpieces really say, ‘This is a couture house,’ and that’s the message,” she added. Executed with precision, Acra’s elegant line-up encompassed both dreamy and romantic qualities. Click through to see all 24 dresses.
Designer: Reem Acra
Location: Stage, Lincoln Center
What was it like: The combination of upbeat music, a red backdrop and a black mirrored runway hinted at a nightclub atmosphere.
Why we love this collection: For a spring collection, the Reem Acra looks are considerably dark, with a strong focus on night-time sensuality. Slinky dresses in different materials, from silver crepe to chiffon, oozed sexiness as models strutted down the catwalk. “(The collection) is about the downtown girl who has a great attitude and loves to party,” the designer told us. She emphasized the “coolness” factor, which was conveyed through layers of chiffon, houndstooth print mixed with polka dots, sheer fabrics and peek-a-boo detailing. But really, the masterpiece was the final look, a piece of art that Acra summed up in one word: “Boom!”

Halle Berry is set to walk down the aisle with fiance Olivier Martinez this weekend after a 14-month engagement. And with the nuptials pending and a baby boy on the way (due this fall), there’s much to celebrate. Given Berry’s impeccable maternity style and her love of both flowy fabrics that drape and body-hugging silhouettes, we know her wedding dress will be one to watch. That’s why we scouted the runways, including Monique Lhuillier, Carolina Herrera and Reem Acra, and rounded up our top seven bridal gowns fit for the fashionable star and her baby bump. Click to take a look at our Berry-inspired picks that had us saying, “I do.”
TV may have made the switch to color in 1953, but its biggest stars still love black and white. Diane Kruger (in Nina Ricci), Parks and Recreation star Aubrey Plaza (in Roland Mouret), Veep actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus (in Reem Acra), and The Big Bang Theory’s Kaley Cuoco (in Paule Ka) all stepped out in the clean, simple black-and-white for the 2013 Critics’ Choice Television Awards at The Beverly Hilton Hotel last night. The look, one of the most popular looks this season, is modern, cool, and assertive—but never in your face—and smacks of self-possession. “I love the cut,” Plaza said of who she chose her streamlined design. “It reminds me of vintage Sharon Stone.” Click to see what everyone wore to the ceremony.

Reem Acra‘s spring 2014 bridal collection was titled “Thank You For Your Love” and we were definitely feeling the adoration as we watched it debut on the runway during Bridal Fashion Week. The designer showered us with romance with her undulating and cascading skirts, seductive lace details, sexy draped backs, and the sweetest nothings of all: Embroidered phrases on head and wrist wraps with apropos sayings like “Only You” and “I Do.” Those sweet sentiments also appeared on the showstopping parasols that enveloped gowns in tulle and crystal. “This time I wanted to bring out the sensuality in the bride,” Acra told InStyle.com before the show. “We worked with embellishing the body, rather than making a dress. It’s all about the body, the woman and her sensuality, and making her light, airy, and transparent. It’s all about walking down the aisle with a sensuality, with an emotional power that she has.” Click the photo to see the full collection.
