Rob Lowe and Sofia Vergara held a hilarious impromptu beauty pageant when they presented the nominees in the Lead Actress in a Comedy Series category at the 2011 Emmy Awards tonight. But the presenters didn’t announce what they wore—so we will! From left to right:

Tina Fey in a black gown by Tadashi ShojiMartha Plimpton in sparkling burgundy Zac PosenMelissa McCarthy in a custom-designed dress; Amy Poehler in shimmery blue Peter SomEdie Falco in a one-shoulder Randi Rahm design; and Laura Linney in a chic Celine LBD.

McCarthy ultimately took home the win. “Holy smokes,” she said as she took her statue. “Wow, it’s my first and best pageant ever.” After the show, Martha Plimpton admitted it was ultimately her and Poehler’s idea. “The whole point is that we should be up there celebrating each other,” Plimpton told InStyle.com. “If there’s no spontaneity and no fun, then what’s the point?” See what everyone wore on the 2011 Emmys red carpet in the gallery! Plus, watch McCarthy’s acceptance speech and pageant smile in the clip below.  More

Instant Fashion Week Trend: Ponytails

Feb 16, 2011 @ 11:15 am

One of the biggest hairstyle trends we’ve seen on the fall runways this week is a timeless classic—the ponytail. BCBG Max Azria (top left) and Diane Von Furstenberg (bottom right) both showed a slick low ponytail, while Peter Som (bottom left) swept his teased ponytails to the side for a messier, sexy look. Marc Jacobs (top right) also had his models wear ponies, only his were mounted high and hair wrapped around the bands. What’s your favorite way to wear a ponytail? Tell us in the comments!

Runway Looks We Love: Peter Som

Feb 11, 2011 @ 4:45 pm

With hooded parkas styled over pink dresses, Peter Som‘s fall 2011 collection exuded fifties ladylike charm with a touch of tomboy. Bright pops of cerise added freshness to the long lengths, while gorgeous all-over sequin dresses and trousers mixed up more traditional looks. Som collaborated with Charlotte Olympia for statement shoes, including neon-tinged pointy-toe pumps and ankle boots. Hairstylist Eugene Souleiman created big bouffants, while MAC’s Tom Pecheux kept the skin clean so the lips popped. Click through the gallery to see some of our favorite looks from the Peter Som show.
