Oscar de la Renta’s New Garden-Inspired Collection: Our Favorite Looks

May 22, 2012 @ 4:15 pm

Color lit up the runway at Oscar de la Renta’s resort 2013 fashion show, held at his New York studio yesterday. Inspired by the garden, flowers—both printed and embroidered—embellished the designs, which came in bright hues like evergreen, pacific, and carnation. The theme extended beyond florals, with pretty watercolors, picnic gingham, and plant-like prints. The final evening looks added Hollywood glamour to the sophisticated lineup and ensured an Oscar de la Renta dress for every occasion, from a red carpet to a getaway. Click through the gallery to see our favorite looks from the fashion show.

Bridal Trend to Try: Jeweled Headbands

Apr 23, 2012 @ 3:45 pm

You don’t have to be the Duchess of Cambridge to wear a bejeweled hair accessory for your big day. At Bridal Fashion Week, Carolina HerreraReem Acra, and Oscar de la Renta all featured jeweled headbands on their runways—the perfect finishing touch for an updo that adds a touch of sparkle. Even if you choose to wear your strands down, the embellished band creates a dressed-up appearance, allowing you to spend less time worrying about your hair, and more time nailing your walk down the aisle.

Popular Bridal Look: Red Wedding Dresses

Apr 17, 2012 @ 12:15 pm
Red Wedding DressesBridal Fashion Week

It’s Bridal Fashion Week in New York right now, where designers are showing off their collections for spring 2013. One of the most popular looks we’ve spotted so far is also the most defiant of traditional bridal white—red dresses. Oscar de la Renta included an elaborate ruby ballgown with a sweetheart neckline and jeweled bodice in his show (center); Romona Keveza offered an off-the-shoulder style with an origami flower-covered skirt in “Romona Red” (not pictured); and Vera Wang’s entire runway was filled with shades of vermilion, cardinal, crimson, dahlia, and scarlet (left, right). Wang created her collection—which she named “mei meng”; translation: “beautiful dream”—in the hue for two reasons. “First of all, in Asia red is the color of weddings,” she told InStyle.com. “Second, I felt red was an incredibly sensual, exciting, sexy, brave, and romantic color, and I feel that doing a bridal collection in color gives women the freedom to express their individuality.” Of course, these same designs will be available in crisp creams and whites when they hit stores, though the option of red is now at the forefront of the market. Would you consider wearing red on your wedding day? Tell us your thoughts in the comments!

Jennifer Lawrence likes to wear her fair share of LBDs (honestly, who doesn’t?), though we’d like to take a moment to point out that this young star looks great in color—any color. The Hunger Games leading lady headed to last year’s SAG Awards in hot pink Oscar de la Renta, hit last week’s Berlin premiere of her action movie in red Marchesa, shimmered in gold Prabal Gurung at the Los Angeles Games premiere, stepped out in forest green Calvin Klein in New York last night, presented at the People’s Choice Awards in electric blue Viktor & Rolf, and spoke with David Letterman in navy-violet Altuzarra. For someone who usually likes neutrals, bright hues suit her well! Tell us: What’s your favorite color to wear?

Runway Looks We Love: Oscar de la Renta

Feb 15, 2012 @ 5:40 pm

Hollywood favorite Oscar de la Renta created a girly, youthful collection for fall, exemplified by his use of jewels on dresses, skirts, booties, brooches, and even headbands. His pretty pastel palette included shades of pale pink and ice blue on dresses lined with tulle under layers as well as ruffled blouses. For evening—and more importantly, red carpets—the designer offered an abundance of stunners, from jaw-dropping strapless tulle gowns to sexy and sweet ruffed numbers. See our favorites looks from the collection in the gallery now.
