Houston, we have a style-setter! With Sandra Bullock‘s new space-thriller Gravity co-starring George Clooney out in theaters today, we can’t help but stay fixated on the actress’s out-of-this-world red carpet looks that have made it to our Look of the Day section, almost every day. Starting with the 70th edition of the Venice Film Festival, Bullock wowed everyone in a bold red strapless J. Mendel silk bustier gown with a high-low hem and from that moment, she set the bar for her red carpet moments. Then it was off to Canada for the Toronto International Film Festival where the 48-year-old actress pulled off the color-blocking trend with a black-teal-and-pearl Narciso Rodriguez strapless frock, which according to her stylist Elizabeth Stewart, “we were going to go with something different, more gown-like, but we went with this and it worked.” When it was back in the States for the New York City premiere, Bullock wore another stellar look, this time a white draped Giambattista Valli mini dress with matching black-and-white Giuseppe Zanotti stilettos. The Emmys recognize the talented teams that work their magic in front (and behind) the silver screens. But really, it’s the night for men and women alike to pull out all the stops. We’re talking about A-listers dripping in jewels, flashing all-over sequins, toting decadent clutches and more. Last night, we scouted the red carpet and rounded up the top fashion and beauty trends that will set the style bar for the rest of the year and beyond. Tina Fey (in Narciso Rodriguez) and Zooey Deschanel (in J. Mendel) stunned in shades of blue, Rose Byrne (in Calvin Klein) and Taylor Schilling (in Thakoon) proved that minimalism is still best. In beauty news, Kate Mara and Kerry Washington went natural in petal lips; and Sarah Hyland and Zosia Mamet reminded us that nail art isn’t going anywhere. The red carpets at the Toronto International Film Festival are becoming an important place to make a fashion impression. Many of the biggest labels in the world clamor to dress the festival’s biggest stars, which is why we spotted looks by Salvatore Ferragamo, Marc Jacobs, Marchesa, Prada and more during the first few days of the fest. One of the people masterminding the major moments is stylist Elizabeth Stewart. She is in Toronto helping three of her clients create memorable looks — The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby star Jessica Chastain (shown in Atelier Versace), Gravity star Sandra Bullock and August: Osage County star Julia Roberts. Stewart traveled with Roberts all day Sunday as the actress chatted with press, including a stop at InStyle, which is when we learned about the stylist’s busy TIFF schedule. For her, it’s all about surprising fashion fans. “For Sandra, we were going to go with something different, more gown-like,” Stewart said of the Narciso Rodriguez premiere look (shown above). “But we went with this and it worked.” She’s taking a similar approach to Roberts, choosing comfortable styles that aren’t too Plain Jane. “She’s wearing red, and it’s going to surprise you,” she said of the Dolce & Gabbana look Roberts wore to premiere her film. “It’s not her usual color.” Good thing these movies are getting knockout reviews — that means more opportunities for knockouts on the red carpet.

Narciso Rodriguez’s fall collection was all about bold color and fresh silhouettes. While the show started with a series of black and white looks, it quickly transitioned into an explosion of vibrant hues. The minimalist designer went for striking color combos, like emerald mixed with teal and navy layered over fuchsia. Rodriguez’s signature flowing slip dresses made an appearance, but this time they were short and sexy in the front, and floor-sweeping in the back. The accessories, which were just as cool and modern as the clothes, were the perfect complement to the sleek collection: oversize color block clutches and cap-toe stilettos. What’s black and white all over? Celebrity style this season. Stars are taking over the red carpet (and the streets!) in black-and-white ensembles, and we love the graphic color combination! Jessica Alba wore a menswear-inspired black and white number by Narciso Rodriguez to the Environmental Media Awards, Kristen Stewart followed suit in a black-and-white Balenciaga design for the AFI fest screening of her new movie, On the Road, and Cameron Diaz opted for a more feminine take on the trend with a simple satin dress by Stella McCartney at the world premiere of her movie, Gambit, in London. Meanwhile, Gwen Stefani also stepped out across the pond earlier this fall wearing black leather pants, a white turtleneck, and a black blazer. Narciso Rodriguez for Kohl’s DesigNation lands in stores in a few weeks, and we can hardly wait! Neither can the Cuban-American designer’s loyal celebrity fans, including Julianna Margulies, Katie Holmes, and Emma Roberts, who all celebrated his new lineup in New York last night. “I love that he loves women,” Margulies told InStyle.com of why she’s a Narciso follower (he even made her wedding dress!), while wearing the $64 two-tone dress from the collection. “He respects us and he cuts dresses to looks best on a woman’s body. He loves a curve. And this dress? It’s just not going to go out of style.” Rodriguez is thrilled that his pals took to his creations, like Emma Roberts, who wore the collection’s $60 V-neck design. “When you see women who have such great style that look so beautiful, it makes me very proud,” he told us. “I approached designing this collection the same way I would approach my own collection. I love beautiful things, and there wasn’t any holding back on style or design. My objective was to create a beautiful collection.” Click through the gallery to preview the entire Narciso Rodriquez for Kohl’s DesigNation—which was inspired by his recent trip to Istanbul and is full of the clean lines and architectural inspirations he’s known for—and shop it when it lands in Kohl’s stores and kohls.com starting November 7th.
