Derek Lam’s New Lower-Price Line: Now Available!

Nov 18, 2011 @ 5:25 pm

A piece from Derek Lam’s runway collection—loved by celebrities like Kirsten Dunst, Rachel Bilson, Julianne Moore, Charlize Theron and more—can usually run in the thousands. Luckily, if you don’t want to spend that much, the designer came up with a solution: 10 Crosby by Derek Lam, a new lower-price line that still incorporates his soft, subtle, and feminine signatures without the big price tag. “This collection is not meant to be intimidating,” Lam told InStyle.com this week. “I wanted there to be a lot of choice for separates and basics.” As for how to wear the tops, dresses, wide-leg trousers, and jackets? Any way you want! “If you’re intrigued by fashion, by clothes, you’re your own personal stylist,” he advised. Shop the lineup starting at $165 at barneys.com, and check out our favorite pieces in the gallery.

Derek Lam Lauches a Diffusion Line!

May 18, 2011 @ 2:00 pm

Hot on the heels of his eBay collab, Derek Lam is launching a new clothing line! Called 10 Crosby Derek Lam, after the designer’s New York City office address, the collection features lower price points and a more downtown feel. “After the tough economic times, there definitely is a customer looking for fashion with an accessible reach, but considered in a fresh manner,” Lam told WWD. Shoppers can expect to see lots of jersey fabrics and soft tailoring in 10 Crosby, with an emphasis on utilitarian everyday basics. The line is set to roll out in November at department stores and Lam’s Crosby Street boutique, and prices will run from $195 to $895.

Derek Lam’s New eBay Collection Includes a Dress Only Available Through iPhones!

May 10, 2011 @ 10:15 am

Designer Derek Lam collaborated with eBay to create a five-piece collection chosen by the online bidding giant’s users, and now the line is available for purchase starting today! EBay users voted on their favorite designs each week, and the winning dresses, which range from $175 to $295, were announced in March. But, Lam decided to add one more design to the collection—a tee dress available exclusively through the eBay Fashion iPhone app. The $125 silk poplin style, shown, comes in sizes 0 through 16. “The weightless fluidity and detail makes the tee shirt dress a versatile piece for a modern feminine summer wardrobe,”  Lam told InStyle exclusively. To pick one up, download the eBay Fashion iPhone app at Apple.com. Check out the rest of the five-piece Derek Lam + eBay collection in the gallery, and shop the looks at DerekLam.ebay.com.

Instant Fashion Week Trend: Mixed Berries

Feb 17, 2011 @ 8:59 am

Reds, pinks and purples are the standout colors so far during New York Fashion Week‘s fall collections. Reds and pinks pop on the runway in rich shades of cherry, cranberry, and raspberry (shown left at Prabal Gurung), while  we’re seeing purples in vibrant plum and grape, as seen at Derek Lam (shown right). And not only have the hues stood on their own, but mixing them together in unexpected pairings offers a new twist on berry brights (shown center at Diane Von Furstenberg). Runway Looks We Love: Derek Lam

New York City Ballet co-founder George Balanchine inspired Derek Lam‘s Fall collection with his quote: “There are no new steps, only new combinations.” The palette popped with blues and reds, and Lam’s lineup provided a mix of modern Grecian gowns and swoon-worthy outerwear. The designer also worked with new fabrications, which created fluidity and unique draping. Click through the gallery to see our favorite Derek Lam looks.
