Pastels are so sweet this summer—not only are the delicate tones a smash for hats, hair colors, and nail polish, celebrities also love the soft shades from head to toe. Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge chose tender yellow Emilia Wickstead, Emma Stone went for sky blue Emilio Pucci, Salma Hayek sparkled in an embellished Bottega Veneta violet sheath, and Diane Kruger looked ladylike in icy blue Chanel. This is a look that is as sophisticated as it is romantic, especially when paired with neutral tones for accessories and makeup. Click through the gallery to see more stars in pastels.

Bottega Veneta‘s fall runway collection was full of color-blocked coats in all in shades of fuchsia, mango, and orange. “The Milan shows have bursting with color and texture,” InStyle‘s Fashion Director Cindy Weber-Cleary reported from the BV show in Milan. “This look [left] combines ladylike accessories, hair and makeup with a sporty one-two punch of color. It’s right on target!” Complementing the coats were‘60s bouffants, lace T-strap sandals, and classic day bags. For evening, we saw tones of undone glamour, like these bustier gowns with cut-up hems. Blake Lively mixed pops of color for her look at the National Board of Review Awards Gala in New York last night. The Gossip Girl star hit the red carpet to celebrate her Best Ensemble Cast award for The Town with co-stars Ben Affleck and Jon Hamm wearing a laser-cut purple Marchesa dress with ruffle sleeves, which she paired with bold turquoise accessories by Lorraine Schwartz. Jennifer Garner also reached for a bright hue, choosing a magenta Roland Mouret design. See Lively and Garner—as well as Jennifer Lawrence, Michelle Williams and more—in the gallery.
Raf Simon’s Jil Sander show was the best of Milan, especially the black unstructured coat over emerald coat paired with a fuchsia top and bright pink pant (left). His gorgeous use of color and expert layering pointed spring fashion in a new direction. Everything that came down Bottega Veneta‘s runway was effortlessly chic. This blue grey silk pantsuit (right) could be worn for day or night—and will look just as elegant next year and the year after that!
