Designer: 3.1 Phillip Lim
Location: 360 33rd St
What was it like: The designer was inspired by the Earth, raw landscapes and geode-formations–and he took it literally, covering the entire floor of the venue in salt crystals (though not the best for heels). And for added drama, smoke machines rolled out a continuous haze of fog during the show.
Why we love this collection: It was all about the geode-inspired swirls (the same one featured on the invite), which was seen punctuated throughout the entire collection in one shape or form, whether it was through prints, embroidery or cut-outs. While most pieces stayed on-theme, florescent hues, fringe detailing and iridescent fabrics broke the mold.
From the glow of actress Jessica Alba (in 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target) and Phillip Lim on the carpet to the smiles of guests shopping racks of clothes, including actor Emile Hirsch and singer Solange Knowles, the mood was light and jovial at the 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target launch party at New York’s Spring Studio Thursday. “I’ve been a fan of Phillip Lim’s for a really long time,” athlete Maria Sharapova (in 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target) admitted to InStyle.com on the carpet. “The silhouette and the shapes and the colors he uses I think are brilliant and suit so many different body types. It’s just fun to see him create this collection that’s more affordable with his vision.” And the price tag had everyone, including model Alyssa Miller gushing. “I’m wearing his dress, and it cost $30, and that’s awesome!” Miller raved to InStyle.com, boasting her skintight animal print ensemble. Guests stole peeks at the night’s second main attraction, an impressive 120-foot-long interactive photograph panorama that featured looks from the collection worn by fashion tastemakers in U.S. and Canadian cities. It was a fitting touch to an evening as colorful as the designer himself. Shop the limited-edition collection in Target stores and target.com when it launches September 15.

It looks like Phillip Lim’s collection for Target hit shelves two weeks early, by accident! Confirmed by Racked, the Target in Duluth, Georgia mistakenly placed a few of the 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target accessories out on display, including scarves and those covetable faux leather bags everyone wants. We’re sure the items have been pulled back by now, but how jealous are you of those who may have gotten their hands on the latest Target collaboration already? (Un)fortunately, the Duluth Target was the only retailer to make the mistake, but we’re going to check our nearest Target store just to make sure! The full collection of women’s and men’s clothing including accessories and handbags will arrive at Target stores and target.com on Sunday, September 15th. Let the countdown begin!

The wait is almost over! In May, we reported that Phillip Lim was the next designer on deck for the newest Target collaboration, and last night we scored a preview to his entire collection of over 100 pieces. The line includes clothing divided into morning, noon and evening looks, and we’re obsessed with the dresses, embellished sweaters, faux leather satchels, scarves, and blouses ($20 to $300) among the covetable offerings. ”Since an early age, I’ve been intrigued by the idea of design evolution,” the designer said in a statement. “One of the reasons I wanted to collaborate with Target is because I felt that together we could create a collection that would inspire—one that is cool and chic, but still very accessible.” Plus, Lim didn’t leave the boys out of the mix — the capsule also contains an array of men’s clothing and accessories, like trousers, shoes, and more. Click the photo to get your first look at the collection, and get ready to hit the ground running when the items arrive at Target stores and target.com on September 15th. Target has brought us some amazing designer collaborations—from Missoni to Prabal Gurung—and now, the retailer just announced the next one on deck: 3.1 Phillip Lim! The New York designer, who is loved by Kate Hudson, Diane Kruger, and Rachel Bilson, created a collection for Target that includes over 100 pieces, from clothing for men and women ($20 to $300) to accessories like shoes, bags, and travel goodies ($20 to $60). “Since an early age, I’ve been intrigued by the idea of design evolution,” Lim said in a statement. “One of the reasons I wanted to collaborate with Target is because I felt that together we could create a collection that would inspire—one that is cool and chic, but still very accessible.” Target also released a 51-second video detailing Lim’s girl-on-the-go inspiration (which is SO YOU), so watch it above and save the date for September 15, when the collection lands in stores and on target.com.

Celebrity stylist Brad Goreski saw hundreds of looks during New York Fashion Week, and he sat down with InStyle managing editor Ariel Foxman to share his six favorites—just six!—for next season during a private lunch held at the Ramsay at the London Hotel. “I look for things that work for my clients looks, and also things that I can go back and say these are the big trends this year,” he told guests of how he whittled down his list of top picks. See the six looks he’d love to see everywhere next spring (including on his clients!) in the gallery!
