Debra Messing, Alexandra Wentworth, and Mariska Hargitay embodied the uplifting spirit of the 6th Annual Joyful Heart Foundation Gala in New York City as they squeezed together to snap a selfie on the red carpet. The event raised funds for the Joyful Heart Foundation, an organization Mariska Hargitay started in 2004 after she began playing Detective Olivia Benson on Law and Order: Special Victims Unit. The content on the show opened her eyes to the staggering realities of sexual assault, domestic violence, and child abuse, and she decided to form a foundation to help empower, heal, and educate survivors of abuse. To learn more about the foundation head to joyfulheartfoundation.org. Plus, check out more of this week’s parties by clicking the photo above.

Cause Celeb: Debra Messing Partners With Population Services International to Support HIV Prevention

Apr 24, 2013 @ 5:30 pm
Debra MessingZoeann Murphy

Debra Messing is a celeb with a cause: On page 112 of the new May InStyle, the actress takes us on the road with her as she journeys to Zambia with Population Services International (PSI), a nonprofit that saves lives around the world by providing small but highly effective health interventions to battle the spread of HIV. ”I lost my acting teacher, Paul Walker, to AIDS in 1993,” Messing says in the issue. “It’s a cause that runs deep for me.” While in the country, she even had a public HIV test while there to prove that it’s important for everyone to get one. “Each day in Zambia was an emotional assault—you come face-to-face with people who are ill when they don’t have to be,” Messing says. “That’s where PSI comes in: It brings tools like HIV testing, counseling, condoms, and medicine to communities that need them.” And there are ways you can help, too: Head to the Facebook page of Make (+) More Positive, “like” it, and PSI will donate one HIV test kit to an area in need. Follow @PSIimpact on Twitter for updates, and head to psi.org to donate—just $30 can buy the needed supplies to give one person a year of healthy life. Smash Season 2 Preview: Watch It Here!

Nov 20, 2012 @ 10:05 am

The show goes on! NBC just released a sneak peek of the new season of Smash, and we’re dancing our toes off beneath our desks to the sound of new cast member Jennifer Hudson belting it out in the 46-second trailer. The short clip proves the second season picks up right where we left off—Julia (Debra Messing) is on rocky footing with her husband and her writing partner Tom (Christian Borle), Karen (Katharine McPhee) is still struggling to find her footing, Ivy (Megan Hilty) is as conniving as ever, and Eileen (Anjelica Huston) just wants to get the lights to turn on for her Marilyn Monroe musical, Bombshell. We’re also even more optimistic about the show’s new cast members after this quick look: Jeremy Jordan, the hot lead of Broadway’s Newsies joins as a love interest, Jimmy, Sean Hayes reunites with his Will & Grace co-star Debra Messing to play Terrence Falls, a star trying to make his Broadway debut, and, of course, Jennifer Hudson shines as Tony Award-winning Broadway star Veronica Moore. Watch the preview above, and see an extended look at yahoo.com. We can’t wait until Smash returns on its new night, Tuesdays at 9/8c, starting February 5th. Mark your calendars and warm up those vocal chords to sing along!

Debra Messing’s Glowing Skin Secrets

Oct 24, 2012 @ 5:16 pm

In between her busy schedule as a mother and an actress, Debra Messing still manages to have perfect skin. After her recent trip to the AMOREPACIFIC spa in New York City, we just had to ask her aesthetician, Lisa Vela, the secret to the star’s flawless face. The answer: some much-needed TLC! “Debra Messing definitely has great skin. The lifestyle of travel, being a mom, and being on set for long hours in a lot of makeup put a lot of stress on her complexion,” Vela told InStyle.com. “She was up early the morning of her facial, which also puts stress on the skin.” But don’t worry if you can’t book an appointment at the spa, the Luminous Effect Brightening Masque ($120; amorepacific.com) is a great at-home alternative. “This hydrating sheet masque instantly creates bright, dewy skin by reducing existing pigmentation for a brighter, more translucent complexion,” she said. “I also recommend products from the Time Response Collection, like the serum, which reverse skin aging on a genetic level.” Shop both at amorepacific.com now, and click through our gallery to see more ways to get a luminous complexion!

Debra Messing’s Statement Eyes: Get the Look

Oct 6, 2012 @ 11:00 am

Looking to add a little extra drama to your peepers this weekend? Take a cue from Debra Messing, who wowed with exaggerated eyes at the the 2012 United Nations Every Woman Every Child Dinner in New York City. And we got the inside scoop! To make the Smash star’s green eyes really pop, her makeup artist Gita Bass first lined her top and bottom lids with Makeup Forever Aqua Eyes in Forest Green ($18, sephora.com). Before the waterproof liner set, she blended the top lid to create a soft, smudged line. “Debra is blessed with thick and insanely long lashes,” Bass told InStyle.com, “but for extra drama, I applied individual lashes to fill in any gaps.” After curling and applying two coats of mascara, Bass pulled out the big guns: Ardell Duralash Knot-Free Long Black Lashes ($5, purespadirect.com). She started by attaching medium-length lashes to the outer corners and then alternated with shorts all the way along the lash line for thickness and length. The final touch: tracing over the upper lash line with a gel liner in black for extra intensity.

Smash’s Debra Messing on the Will & Grace Reunion: ‘I Was Beside Myself’

Aug 23, 2012 @ 10:15 am

When news broke that Smash would feature a Will & Grace reunion by way of casting Sean Hayes in the same show as his former co-star Debra Messing, we were thrilled. And so was Messing! “When I found out that he was coming on, I was beside myself,” the actress told InStyle.com at the Post-It Your Words Stick With Them launch in New York. “I feel like he is a brother. I could act with him anytime, anywhere, any day and think that he is so gifted.” She only had one condition: “When [executive producer] Neil Meron came to me and said he was talking to Sean, I made him promise that I have to act with him,” she said. “I said, ‘If he comes on and acts with everyone else on the show but me, I’m going to have a temper tantrum!’” That means writers still have time to put the former Jack McFarland and Grace Adler together in a scene. “It hasn’t happened yet,” Messing said. “It’s going to be like a family reunion. He is my Seany.” We can’t wait to watch! Smash returns early 2013.
