Dancing With the Stars Winner: Donald Driver Takes the Trophy!

May 23, 2012 @ 10:55 am

Donald Driver and Peta Murgatroyd took home the Mirrorball Trophy last night on the season 14 finale of Dancing With the Stars! The Green Bay Packers football star (and self-proclaimed DWTS fan since its inaugural season!) dropped to the floor and rolled around from excitement when his name was called. “I was on fire, and I had to roll around and get the fire out,” he told Good Morning America this morning. The pair took the stage at the beginning of the show for a repeat performance of their country music freestyle to Cowboy Troy’s “I Play Chicken With the Train” and wowed the audience again with their unique choreography and complicated lifts. And it was this dance—watch it above—that put this couple in the lead. ”We made a really good choice with what we wanted to portray with the freestyle, and we went all out with the country, and did something different, and it suited Donald to a tee,” Murgatroyd said. (Donald also won in our InStyle.com poll, with almost 40% of the vote.) Now we can’t wait for the “All-Star” season of the show which will return in the fall! Tell us: Were you happy with Donald Driver’s win?

Dancing With the Stars Results: Sherri Shepherd Eliminated

Last night, Dancing With the Stars lost its most enthusiastic contestant: Sherri Shepherd. She wasn’t shy about her love for her professional partner Val Chmerkovskiy, and neither are we! We’ll miss the often-shirtless dance pro just as much as The View host. Shepherd admitted she was scared to do the show, but each week she gained more confidence. After her tango on Monday night, she tweeted a photo in her bustier with netted sleeves and wrote, “Costume designed by @IamValc – [love] it so much I’m going grocery shopping with it on!” Bye, Sherri! Bye, Val!

Former Dancing With the Stars Designer Puts His Own Spin on Swimwear

Apr 9, 2012 @ 3:50 pm

Costume designer Randall Christensen had created the sparkly, fringe-covered looks seen on Dancing With the Stars for five years—and now he’s bringing his get-their-attention approach to swimwear by designing a dance-inspired collection for Miraclesuit. “Rhinestones and crystals have really made the transition from nightlife to everyday life, even for when you’re sitting by the pool,” the Emmy Award-winning designer (inset) told InStyle.com. “These suits are subtly done, and not blinged out. They are meant to bring you attention that makes you feel like a million dollars.” The one-pieces feature sequins and stones each placed by hand, including one with black hematite pyramid studs, as well as two-layer Lycra meant to cinch in all the right places. Shop the collection for $250 to $500 at miraclesuit.com.

DWTS Season 14: Karina Smirnoff’s Outfit Inspired by Bed Sheets

Apr 3, 2012 @ 12:25 pm

Karina Smirnoff designed the outfits she and partner Gavin DeGraw wore on last night’s Dancing with the Stars, and pulled her inspiration from a mix of piano seduction and bed accessories. “The outfit is a glam version of an undergarment body suit wrapped in a silky bed sheet,” Smirnoff told InStyle.com of their style for their rumba to Billy Joel’s “New York State of Mind.” “The story is a couple comes home after a night on the town. The man is dressed in a tux, but takes his jacket off and stays in a white tux shirt—sleeves rolled up—and plays piano for his lady, while she sits on the piano, listening and admiring him.” The pair received a 24 out of 30 for the routine, which he dedicated to his family for supporting his dream of becoming a musician. Watch their performance above.

Dancing With the Stars Season 14, Episode 1: See the Costumes!

Mar 20, 2012 @ 10:40 am

Host Tom Bergeron called last night’s Dancing With the Stars season 14 premiere one of the most charismatic and entertaining he’s ever seen. The judges seemed to agree, doling out the highest scores ever for a premiere. Urkel alum Jaleel White and British opera star Katherine Jenkins topped the leaderboard with scores of 26, and our favorite was second-place finisher, 31-year-old Cuban-American actor William Levy, who was named People en Español‘s Sexiest Man of 2011. The crowd roared for his muscles as well as his gyrating cha-cha, though we agreed with judge Bruno Tonioli about Levy’s costume choice—the semi-open tank was nice and all, but next time he should ditch the shirt altogether.
