Dancing With The Stars Costumes: Jacoby Jones and Karina Smirnoff’s Finale Looks

May 21, 2013 @ 4:35 pm

With Season 16 of Dancing With The Stars coming to an end, Karina Smirnoff and partner Jacoby Jones transformed the ballroom into one giant party for their final dance of the season. And they had tap-dancing kids, drummers, and step-dancers join them! The duo freestyled to Macklemore’s “Can’t Hold Us” in fringe outfits decked out in Jones’s Baltimore Ravens colors. ”I wanted to represent Jacoby’s hometown for our freestyle and I wanted the audience to smile when they saw us dance,” Smirnoff told InStyle.com. “We wanted to make it a celebration on the dance floor!” With Mardi Gras, Bourbon Street, confetti, and beads on her mind, Smirnoff focused on embellishments. “The shoulder piece was made out of jewels and beading. It was connected to a glittery, purple bralet.” The performance embodied what the couple brought to the competition each week: energy and fun. Find out if they are able to win the coveted Mirror Ball Trophy on tonight’s live results show at 9/8c on ABC.

Dancing With The Stars Costumes: Karina Smirnoff’s Flirty Semi-Finals Look

May 14, 2013 @ 5:30 pm

Despite being hospitalized due to injuries earlier in the week, Karina Smirnoff brought her signature energy and expert dance moves to the ninth episode of Dancing With The Stars—the semi-finals! This time, she and her football pro partner Jacoby Jones went for flirty costumes for their two dances, the Argentine Tango and Lindy Hop. “For our first dance, the tango, I wanted the dress to resonate with the darkness of the dance, like a woman walking around the back alleys of Buenos Aires looking for trouble,” Smirnoff told InStyle.com. “The dress for the Lindy Hop (shown) was flirtatious, but it was all about the ’50s and polka dots. I designed it to flow while we flipped around the dance floor.” At the end of it all, their persistence worked: The two managed to achieve their first ever perfect score and tied for first place—one step closer to the Mirrorball Trophy! Find out if they make it to the next round on tonight’s live results show at 9/8c on ABC.

Dancing With The Stars Costumes: Karina Smirnoff’s Fire and Ice Inspiration

May 7, 2013 @ 5:15 pm

On last night’s Dancing With The Stars, Karina Smirnoff and Jacoby Jones performed two distinctly different dances. So when searching for inspiration for their costumes, two elements came to Smirnoff’s mind: fire and ice. After waltzing to James Brown’s “It’s A Man’s World,” in icy cool blues, they upped the fire for their paso doble (literally, flames shot up from the stage!). ”I wanted the dress to be reminiscent of the power and fire of the dance,” Smirnoff told InStyle.com. “The floor length canary yellow gown had a bodice trimmed in bold black lace, evoking the ebb and flow of the emotion running throughout the dance.” The judges were equally revved up. “This wasn’t a dance floor, this was a bull ring,” Len Goodman declared. Dancing With The Stars Costumes: Karina Smirnoff’s Southern Inspiration

Apr 30, 2013 @ 3:30 pm

Last night’s Dancing With The Stars was all about Latin flavor, so Jacoby Jones and partner Karina Smirnoff befittingly kicked off the evening with some serious hip action. Performing the salsa to Don Omar’s “Danza Kuduro,” the duo looked fresh in white ensembles. “Most people expect outrageous, multicolor costumes for Latin dance but I wanted to take a different route,” Smirnoff told InStyle.com. “I took the dance to South Beach. South Beach is filled with happy energy and simple dresses. I added small amounts of fringe and feathers to make my costume stand out.” Miami wasn’t the only place on Smirnoff’s mind: She said the fleur-de-lis on the neckline of her dress was an homage to New Orleans, Jones’ hometown. Dancing With The Stars: Karina Smirnoff’s Cheery Dress Was Meant to Make You Smile

Apr 23, 2013 @ 2:30 pm

Dancing With The Stars brought even more star power last night as the couples danced to Stevie Wonder’s greatest hits sung by Stevie Wonder himself. Superbowl champion Jacoby Jones and partner Karina Smirnoff performed the quickstep to “For Once in My Life” with Smirnoff in a canary yellow gown that radiated happiness. “The quickstep is one of ballroom’s most elegant, lighthearted dances, so I wanted this dress to make everyone smile,” she told InStyle.com. “I walked into the costume department, saw the fabric and said, ‘This is it, this is the color I want!’” Bringing their fancy footwork into the audience for a few moments certainly amplified the crowd’s energy, but the judges weren’t all smiles–they landed in fifth place with a score of 23 out of 30. See if they make it to the next round on tonight’s live results show at 9/8c on ABC. Plus, click the photo to see more of this couple’s cutest costumes.

Dancing With The Stars: The Details Behind Karina Smirnoff’s Hot Pink Fringe

Apr 16, 2013 @ 2:00 pm

Contestants on last night’s Dancing With The Stars had to perform alongside a professional couple for 15 seconds of synchronized choreography—a challenge that Karina Smirnoff and partner, Baltimore Ravens player Jacoby Jones, passed with flying colors… literally. The pair wowed the crowd during a jive to Little Richard’s “Long Tall Sally,” in which Jones actually leapt over Smirnoff at full height (impressive!). And the costumes were just as lively as the dance itself. “The jive is about being colorful in so many different ways—facial expressions, movements, and of course through the outfits,” Smirnoff told InStyle.com. “With this in mind, I decked out my hot pink ensemble with fringe and rhinestone accents for extra flash.” It paid off: The pair got their best ever score , a 26 out of 30! See what the rest of America thought by tuning in to the live results show on ABC at 9/8c tonight.

Dancing With The Stars Costumes: Karina Smirnoff’s “Feel-Good” Pink Dress

Apr 9, 2013 @ 3:00 pm

The judges, audience members, and viewers (us included!) shed happy tears during last night’s Dancing With The Stars as contestants used the dance floor to re-interpret the best year of their lives. Foxtrotting to Rodney Atkins’s “Watching You,” Karina Smirnoff and partner, Jacoby Jones, dedicated their performance to 2012—the year Jones’ son was born. “There is a continuous, smooth flow in the foxtrot so I wanted my dress to move beautifully with every single step we took,” Smirnoff told InStyle.com. “The pink accents and floral print gave this gown a summery, feel-good effect that corresponded perfectly with the meaning behind our dance this week.” Scoring 24 out of 30, judge Carrie Ann Inaba declared, “I think you have a real shot at winning this!” To see if America agreed, tune in to ABC at 9/8c tonight for the live results show.
